What is the widest tire?

Need new rears and would like a little more rubber. What is the widest tire that can be fitted to the stock 17 inch (rear) rim on a 2004 without clearance issues? Thanks.

they say 255/45/17 is pretty much the widest you should go with no clearance issues at all. past that, you need a lower side wall, i think 265/40/17 or 275/4017 should work nicely

I have 275/40/17 Nitto's on the rear with no issues... I also have factory sagging springs

for an 8" rim might as well go with a 255 because the contact patch will be the same as a 275 that bubbles a bit due to only an 8" width on the wheel

on a stock rim you can go as wide as a 275, but will have to either roll your fenders or grind them down. I have even seen some gtos running 285s on a 9 inch rim on the back (corvette c5 z06 or c6 non zo6 rim).

For my daily street tire im running the Nitto Nt 555R 275x35x18
and my track tire is a Mickey Thompson E.T street, 265x40x18
