View Full Version : For all groups cruising to Vegas together

I want to take this time to have a chat with those who are not the most experienced at this kinda ralley. Last year a few people pissed off some truckers that called the cops on us.

1) dont cut off other cars that arent in the group. if it happens enough they will call the cops on us. Also, keep the crazy driving to a minimum in areas with more traffic (pockets of traffic, barstow, or other populated cities).

2) dont piss off truckers. this means tail gating, cutting them off, or slamming on brakes in front of them. they are usually cool if you dont mess with them.

3) if you see a cop, of course slow down, but do it without slamming on your brakes. downshift combined with braking works well (unless you are open headers). no weaving or goofing off if you see a cop OR if you see someone else in the group hitting their brakes.

4) if you dont want to speed then stay toward the back or drive out at a different time. just remember that last year, the so cal group was stopped and the cop cut in somewhere in the middle. the people in back would have gotten tickets if i wasnt such a smooth talker. ;)

5) try to grab a few phone numbers of other drivers so the group can contact each other. If (God forbid) theres an emergency, we need to stick together.

Dave....AWESOME! Thanks for posting this.

While we want to enjoy our caravan ride out, we need to keep it cool and respect the other drivers on the road. We can still have our fun, just please be courteous and respectful. No need to cut anybody off because there are enough of us where being 5 cars back from your previous spot doesn't matter enough to cut anybody off.

Another important thing to add is about those of us with radar detectors and 2-ways. All of you guys going in the SoCal caravan with either please let us know at the first stop. We will need to have a few of each in each part of the group (front, middle, rear).

I have a radar detector and will try to grab a 2-way.

Very good additional point. I have a two way, and troy (tmorgan) should still have my other one from last year.

a pair of 2-ways at Frys is like $30. great investment for this ride.

2 rechargeable 2-ways are 17$ at wal-mart works pretty good.

And if you really want something cool, change out the red LEDs for colored ones.

Makes determining which band of radar is being used at night MUCH easier. It also looks slick too.

Is changing the LEDs out easy?

Sent it (along with money) to a guy... he sent it back like that (or however you want the colors done)... easy as going to the post office (and living for a week without the concealed display). If you have some skills I'm sure it could be DYI (I can solder, but I didn't want to mess with doing stuff on boards and locating parts).

This is good stuff Dave!

Also for CA people keep in mind that CHP has been increasing their ticketing efforts and fines have been increasing as well. I wrote a thread about this in the SW section and have heard the same from others that travel a lot for work. The daughter of a lady in our office got popped for 50 in a 35 (on a road that is 45 except for one area) to the tune of over $400 and this was her first ticket ever.

I say this to point out that I doubt we will get off as easy as last year so lets fly under the radar.

Might I suggest......

1) If you have a group that doesn't care about tix, spending cash, etc. let them leave FIRST. This will clear the way for those that want to stay on the LEGAL side of the speed limits.

2) When possible ALWAYS STAY RIGHT!!! I can guaranty that you'll have less trouble and since MOST ARSE-PIPES drive in the lanes toward the left, you won't have to deal with as much passing. (except for big rigs)

3) Have fun!

This is very true. I have a speed cam that I will be using on my car. And I have 2 other camcorders that will be used too. At at time I will be speeding up to get in front of the pack. This way I can get some good footage of the goats driving by. Also, with that being said, I would also like to get the shot with the Welcome to Las Vegas sign in front, and the goats passing the sign going into Vegas. Please let me get ahead when this comes up. And if someone could please tell me when we are getting near that would be very helpful. I will have a set up of 4 walkie talkies. And I plan to pass a few of them out. 1 to Imcautious, 1 to the back guy and 1 to the front guy. I have a cyclone Grey Car and I will make sure that everyone knows im not tring to race, but rather put myself in a better spot to get the footage needed for the DVD. I would hope that if you see my on the side of the road filming that you DONT HIT ME. Thanks and I cant wait!!!!

Well it pays to have a CHP 11-99 Plate, which the $1600 investment at the time has saved me over $4000 plus insurance premiums. I drive to Vegas every other week, and I have 0 tickets on my record.

Welcome to Las Vegas sign

The welcome to las vegas sign is not on the freeway, if you want this we would have to exit rusell and drive past it on the strip before the luxor. kinda out of the way but well worth it i think. also they put in a new parking area before the sign, kind of in the way of video....just a heads up

Excuse me, Lieutenant. Is there something wrong?

Yes ma'am, the data on the MiG is inaccurate.

How's that, Lieutenant?

Well, I just happened to see a MiG 28 do a...
Goose: We!
Uh, sorry, Goose. *We* happened to see a MiG 28 do a 4g negative dive.

Where did you see this?

Uh, that's classified.

It's what?

It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Lieutenant, I have confidential clearance. The pentagon sees to it that I know more than you do.
So, lieutenant, where exactly were you?

Well, we...
Goose: Thank you.
Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.

Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Because I was inverted.

Iceman: [coughs whilst saying] Bullshit.

Goose: No, he was man. It was a really great move. He was inverted.

You were in a 4g inverted dive with a MiG28?

Yes, ma'am.

At what range?

Um, about two meters.
Goose: It was actually about one and a half I think. It was one and a half. I've got a great Polaroid of it, and he's right there, must be one and a half.
Was a nice picture.
Goose: Thanks.

Eh, lieutenant, what were you doing there?
Goose: Communicating.
Communicating. Keeping up foreign relations. You know, giving him the bird!
Goose: [Charlie looks puzzled, so Goose clarifies] You know, the finger

Yes, I know the finger, Goose. :ohsnap1:
