Answer:
I would snatch one of the pieces of paper out of the hat and swallow it before even looking at it. That way, the moderators at LS1GTO would have to look at the other piece of paper to see what I had chosen. Since it would say "DEATH" y'all would have to assume the one I ate said "LIFE" and set me free, sending VeritasGT into a tizzy and asking for a recount, or at least another submission.

You've been captured and sentenced to death by the staff of LS1GTO, which has a strange law.

Before the sentence is carried out, two papers -- one with "LIFE" written on it and one with "DEATH" written on it -- are folded up and placed in a hat. You are permitted to pick out one of the papers (without looking), and if you choose the one with "LIFE" written on it, you are set free. If the paper you choose reads "DEATH" well, "Nice knowing you shorty.."

Your 'buddy' VeritasGT has substituted the paper with "LIFE" written on it with another one with "DEATH" written on it. It seems you actually did get under his skin in the debate room...

He gleefully informs you of what he has done and that you are doomed to die. You are not permitted to speak to anyone about this misdeed, we don't like whiners here on LS1GTO, nor will you have a chance to switch the papers or the hat yourself in time.

How will you avoid certain death?
(Other than flashing the Executioner and having nice ta-tas)

There are a couple ways to achieve the same end. I'll accept any scenario that would be successful.

I did all of this during the 15 minutes I gave myself to eat the lunch that my secretary brought in for me. (Grilled cheese w/ bacon and a bowl of soup. Yum) Including the spicing up of the question to make it a little more LS1-Fun and tallying the scores from yesterday. Sue me :p

The answer is to draw one of the papers and hide it in some way so that the executioner must read the other. In seeing that the paper you did not pull reads death, he must assume that your paper read "LIFE" and set you free..
draw a paper and shove it up VeritasGT's ass. the executioner will not want to go looking for it and will check the remaining paper in the hat. He'll see "death" and assume yours said "life."

After you draw one of the papers, swallow it.

The jailer will be forced to check the remaining paper to determine what the one you drew said. Since the other one reads DEATH as well, they'll assume you drew the one with "LIFE" written on it, and hence you'll avoid certain DEATH for now..
