All of my bolts except two are 12 mm long.
All of my bolts except two are 30 mm long.
How many bolts do I have?

This one is a series of limits.
Each line sets the limits for the one before it.

Line one tells us that we can have an unlimited number of 20mm bolts
but limits us to only 2 of any other size.

The second line tells us that we also have 12mm bolts but also limits
us to 2 of any other size. At this point we could have 2 - 20mm and
2 - 12mm bolts for a total of 4.

Then the third line gives us a third size and still limits the other
sizes to a total of two. Now we only have 2 empty slots to fill with
the 20mm and 12mm bolts. That leaves us with only 3 bolts, one of each.
