View Full Version : My new wheels

Ok guys I finallly got my new wheels on the car. Not fancy at all but they are 1994 Corvette "Sawblade" wheels. They measure 17x8.5 front 17x9.5 rear. It took a little work to get them to fit but they do. For the rears I had to grind the lips back about 5/16th oh an inch and massaged the inner fenders. The fronts required a spacer and for safety ARP wheel studs. I ended up painting them black and am pleased with how they turned out.

I will post pics soon i hate how early it gets dark now:bomb:

My main reason for using the wheels is the easy ability to use a 275 rear tire without squishing it on the stock wheels. And i do believe i could easily step up to a 285 tire easy. Along with the fact that they were free i only have 85 bucks in them without tires, which the car already needed

If your sole purpose if fitting wider tires, you will have accomplished that. Outside of that...

What other purpose is there? Besides reducing unsprung weight.

ShelbyGoat
11-16-2009, 11:12 PM
The other purpose of wheels is to make you car look better. Some people don't care about the widest tire you can fit under there.

The joy of owning your own car. As far as where i stand, I go for more show that wider rubber when it comes to rims.

I have actually always dug those wheels, on anything other then the vette. Very interested to see em on the goat. The only way I could see it working well is if you are lowered...

Really like em on the camaro for some reason.

tires are a 245/45/17 in the front and a 275/40/17 in the rear. Could easily go wider in the rear.

Sir it's a message board, you posted up pics looking for opinions, etc...trust me I've been "nice" compared to some others in other threads concerning wheel choices.
All that "voodoo" to make them fit, grinding lips, etc....when all you had to do was slap some 275 Nitto's on your stock 17's and you would have achieved your goal of running a wider tire. Heck even paint the stock 17's black but again it is your car, your choice. Everyone is entitled to their opinion regardless if it's a "paragraph" or "one sentence"...and I will stick to my original opinion that they look terrible on a GTO, free or not.

The photoshop of silver on red looked promising, and I dont think they look horrible on your car, but if I had to choose those over stock (as a black rim) it would be stock rims for sure. It looks like to you got them to fit very well though
