View Full Version : Outer tread wear

I've read all the posts about excessive inner tread wear and strut rub caused by the bad alignment from the factory and noticed mine appeared to have the problem with rubbing when I had to change a flat tire. Of course the dealer assured me the rub was caused by the flat tire and the alignment and clearance was fine now (which it may be).
My problem is that I pointed out that the outer tread of both front tires seem to be wearing out faster than the rest of the tread. It shouldn't be noticable at 2200 miles. Of course he said it was normal. Anyone else notice this?
Sorry for the long post - I'm new.

did you get an alignment done? just because it's new from the factory doesn't mean that it has a correct alignment. try that. if it still wears, bitch about it enough and they'll get you 4 new tires.

If you are getting ouer tire wear, you must insist on getting an alignment, and possibly new front tires. put some paint on he rub mark and take i for an aggressive fun ride and see if there are marks. Also, It is improtnt to keep the cold tire pressures equal to the placard. They are higher than your owners manual. This is really important

Yep, insist on an alignment, using the specs that DMS posted in another thread. Be sure to have them save the "before" and "after" specs, and keep them as proof.

I had my car checked and it was off... no evidence of strut rub at 2600 miles, though. Now that it's aligned, it's fine...

I told them I wanted an alignment. . . 6 hours later when I picked it up they said it was not necessary. They checked the alignment, clearances and drove it (rather agressively by the evidence of the tire tracks around the corner which I can't prove came from my car). I wasn't about to leave it overnight. I'm going to wait until I can talk to the service manager instead of the tech and I can be there to make sure things go right. The good news is (and what the service rep today doesn't realize yet) is that I am friends with the owner of the dealership so I don't expect more problems.
