I got this info from media.gm. I did not have time to rename all files so just read them all.
There will be new ECM for 2006 ls2 + ignition system…..
Some changes to M12…
Thanks

And a new steering rack/lines and a host of other small things.

I wonder if I can install new ECM into my 05 GTO and get better respond when I take off from staning still.

Guess they are really having problems with the ECU in the 05's or else why bother changing it....

I don't think that would be the route they are going.
If they were concerned about that they could have easily done a flash update for the 05's.

The article states the changes were made for the 505 HP engine for the ZO6, for the increased torque.

Increased torque has what to do with the ECM?
Or are you talking about some of the other changes???
I just don't understand, not trying to be smart or anything.

Trying to say that it didn't seem change was made due to a defective 05 ECM, based on the articles.

Not likely. The specification states that they have merely replaced the 24-bit CPU in the ECU with a 32-bit CPU. Most likely its just a normal advancement of technology, or its something with the advancements they're making to the LS2 for 2006 that requires a more powerful ECU.

Or they changed the programming so that the Predator and other tuning utilities will be rendered useless on the 06 without extensive hacking. :secret:

Just trying to understand that's all. The new ECU's in the 05's seem to be very sensitive to mods, by what i've heard so far.
I didn't read all the specs close enough I guess....

Reading this, it seems to me like someone just changed the "2005" to "2006" and released it without changing anything. The ECU was new and more powerful for '05 to work with the drive-by-wire. I am thinking this is bogus.

Well if they did they changed the code designator as well, the 2005 uses an E40.. the 2006 uses an E38.

Being the electronic guru I know you are, were some early '05's (vette's or GTO's) made with E38's and progressed to E40's sometime during this model year? It really seems weird to go backwards in numbers.
EDIT: the other thing I noticed is this is supposed to be a 2006 update, yet they keep comparing to the LS1 instead of the '05 LS2. It also talks about "incorporating the drive-by-wire" which the '05 does already as well.
New engine control module
The E38 engine control module (ECM) uses a 32-bit processor, which can handle the advanced computing needs of advanced direct ignition and electronic throttle control. It replaces the previous 24-bit controller. The new module incorporates the electronic throttle control (ETC).

the 2006 GTO does not get the 32bit ECM. It will be the same as the 05 GTO. The new ECM will debut on the following cars, Chevrolet Corvette, Corvette Z06, Impala, Monte Carlo, HHR, Cobalt, Uplander, Malibu SS and Malibu Maxx SS, the Cadillac CTS-V, XLR-V, STS-V and DTS, the Pontiac Solstice, G6 and SV6, the Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay.

Odd all the 2006 pilots I've seen had E38's, who knows anymore I've seen so much stuff get changed before production lol

I could be wrong I suppose. With GM anything is possible.

Nah your probably right, I see no reason why the car would need the extra processing power, it's just a carryover from 05. Pilots have been known to be pieced together :)

I agree with VR42GTO, more bits means higher security in coding and the need for more processing power. Might be that the 06 ECMs are a lot less hackable for mods.

Do you really think GM would sell a car that was made difficult to mod on purpose?? It doent make much sense to me..

Oh man that is sad to hear. But is a revelation that has come to me and does make sense. Lets all thank the car gods that we have people like you Chris, to hack away at GM's evil misguided wrong doings that are aimed to keep us average car enthusiasts down!! You are the Robin Hood of computer car programming!!! :hail: :hail:

Why else does comapnys like Ford for example, with the Taurus and the radio with the heating controls in one unit....forced people for the longest time to get the cd player stock or get a cd changer. Since no aftermarket company made a kit to deal with it....it took them awhile but they finally did it... now Metra makes one, but not at first.
