I have been lurking around these boards for quite sometime and am finally graduating school in may but am ordering a 06 gto. Many of you seem to be very knowledgable about GTO's and the ordering process in general. Since many of you have pre-ordered your cars any advice about the process (i.e. tips, horror stories, etc) would be much appreciated. I am thinking about the brazen orange color but am a bit turned off by solid black interior ( am I right here?) because of the heat issues in the summer or fading over time. Any info would be great.

It's always better to purchase your car from dealer inventory (when they get 06's in stock) you will probably get a better deal. If you buy from inventory be sure the car in "not" a demo (it should have ~ 2 miles on it and check it thoroughly for damage / defects). If you pre-order an 06 try to get the car for invoice (no more then $500 over invoice). Many people here can comment on their dealer experiences if you provide your location. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I am fortunate enough to have picked a career that makes very good money and was just thinking about pre-ordering the car before I graduate to have it sitting there when the degree is in my hand. I was also toying around with the idea of pre-ordering the car and then waiting to see what 06's they have on the lot (was just at the dealer and they have orders that are scheduled to be delivered in novemeber but we all know how that goes) and if they have any remaining 05's and what kind of deals they would have. They told me already that I could get my deposit back (500) or have it rolled over into on 05 if I went that route. I would get the in writing obviously. I am going through at least to this point anthony pontiac in gurnee illinois. Any feedback with this dealer would be great. I am also considering country pontiac in mchenry I think or sullivan pontiac in arlington heights. I also don't want to pay dealer prep fees and am going to tell them to not touch the car when it is delivered.

Congrats on your choice. You won't be sorry. As for interior color, true black will hold the heat . All interiors fade if you don't use proper care. Some things to check when you get the car:
1)
air pressure - car usually comes with 50+ air pressure, make sure they adjust it.
2)
two sets of keys
3)
Two vehicle identification stickers with your vin # on it, etc.
4)
Spring tensioners - they're these plastic thingies (red/orange) they put into springs for shipping purposes, make sure they remove them , unless you like a stiff ride.
5)
CD - you get cd with car, it's a computorized owner's manual
That's just some to keep in mind.

Thanks for the info...do you know if they will charge me for prep fees even though I will tell them that i want the car untouched after it gets unloaded off the truck?

Charges for prep depends on the dealer. This is something you have to find-out about before you buy.

Well, that does depend, but few dealers charge "prep fees", any prep fees are usually document fees, not prep.
Second, they HAVE to touch the car, it's required from GM for them to do what is called a PDI inspection, and it would be in your best interest to have them check the car anyway before they deliver it to you.

So put it this way..now go easy on me because I am new to posting, but not necessarily to the board, but what is a good price for an 06. I want an A4 daily driver and the prices seem to be around 34 and some change because of the gas guzzler crap and the destination charge. You guys know your stuff..so what would be the bottom line good deal on this car which is feasible to negotiate? I am thinking of doing the smart buy with about 6-7k down only because I like having a new car every couple of years and it allows me to have a cheaper payment than outright buy. I am fortunate enough to not worry so much about the money issues when it comes to monthly payments, but obviously want a decent one.

1) Right now, about ~$33,000 for an A4 with 17s. When your car comes in, that's another story. I'd negotiate off what the invoice will say, for instance, offer them $250 over Invoice minus any available consumer incentives at the time.
2) Personally, I wouldn't smart buy if I was putting $6000 - $7000 down, I'd just buy, but you are right the payments would be cheaper. Actually, you might find there's a cap on how much you can put down, but I can't remember if that is on a smart buy as well as a smart lease, and how much that cap is.

Thanks for the info. I wish anyone who has dealt with anthony pontiac in gurnee illinois would give me info on their experiences. I seem to have a good salesman who says he "will take care of me" because we have been talking about this for months now..but we all know what that statement means. He will take care of me until I get to the dreaded finance guy who will play games and raise the price.
