View Full Version : How Late into '06 Will GTO be produced?
The article says the GTO will be in production well into 2006.
Does that mean late late 2006? Reminescent of the 1996 Impala SS that was produced almost until the end ot 1996.
That would be pretty cool if 20,000+ GTOs will be made as 2006s.

Limited #'s = Better. I don't want people who used to buy Mustangs start thinking they should buy a GTO. Those with pack mentailities need not apply. This car is for US :burnout:

That might not be applicable. B body production was scheduled to end much sooner, but GM got flooded with last minute orders for cop cars and to avoid pissing off the police, they went through the trouble of building and selling them the cars. Caprice cars are very well respected. My '96 Impala SS was made around 11/26/96. I think the last day was 12/11/96 (I have the last day video tape).
From what I have read about the GTO, there are restrictions on how many will be made. I think they will crank out the quota, then close the facotry for a spell to retool.

It really depends on sales not only here, but I think HSV is still getting them as well. The CV-8 is done but as long as HSV sales are strong it might last till into late 2006. If sales of 2006 GTO's as far as orders go they may extend also, they extended 2005 production after past the original plan due to alot of unexpected orders.
The GTO is built on one line in the factory, the rest of the factory was retooling while GTO production was still going, The new commodore's may be in production in another part of the factory now.

GM can't build GTOs after August, 2006, due to frontal crash law changes.

So PRODUCTION has to stop by the end of August, correct?

Lots of knowledge here in this forum. Any guess on to what could happen next to the lease programs currntly at 9.5% and "low apr" of 6.75? I was about to buy an 05' Black on Black beauty but the deal went down the drain due to negative equity in my current car and that my car "hit the books" as of August thus loosing 2k for my trade in. I heard that the manager even got fired (I am not particulary happy with this I hate for anybody to lose their job)
After September 6 and the GMS ends, will it take a blow to the current interest for leases? It is like the "scale of justice" were if they lower the vehicle prices they nail you with the lease interest. It was a lot better before GMS and the leases were arround 5.5%. Any suggestions or input on this?

The info I read said sept 1st is when all new cars must comply. I would guess GM has alowances for that and may decide to stop sooner.

In the September 05 issue of the car magazine “Wheels Australia” the editorial mentioned that the tooling for the car is just about at the end of useful life.
“Tooling almost worn out. It was never intended to make the car in high volume, so the Monaro specific panel stamping dies are nearing the end of their life.”

“Tooling almost worn out. Will there be enough supply to conduct the repair?

GM has to continue to product parts for 10yrs or so legally.

I would not worry about it.
Most of the car is shared with the Commodore, of which there are literately hundreds of thousands wandering around the roads of Oz. The people in spare parts will have a good handle (based on past experience) on future consumption rates. Australians still have one of the oldest average fleet age in the western world – so that tends to keep the demand for factory spares up. And when the factory support officially stops, lots of cottage industries spring up (i.e. one can still get a Ford 9” diff).

Problem is that used car values are in the tank, thanks mostly to the factory deals. Nobody wanted used when the deals were so good, so the used market dried up. So, if you get a deal on the car, they lowball you on the trade and up the interest. The deals were truly better before the GMS and Family programs. Bought my 05 a week before GMS for less than the GMS price and got 0 financing for 3 years to go with it. Then GMS came along and the rebate disappeared and so did the zero financing, but people jumped at what they thought was a deal.
Best bet may be the credit unions with low interest right now. Still doesn't solve the negative equity issue however.

For now, just have to wait it out until the 2006's are all sold, then if someone want one they will be forced to by it used. With only 45,000 in the whole country, if people want a certain color, well prices can increase.
In addition the GTO will be in F&F 3, no matter what you may think of the film or previous ones. Look what that film did for some cars...namely the Supra, in 98 no-one wanted a new supra and most went back on a ship to japan... now no more Supra made for US market and the cost near new cost for a used one with 70K miles...
Never try and sell a car after a year or two, you will take a big hit.

But they are making it safer for us by passing these requirements  Maybe if it was made ILLEGAL to take money from lobbyist's something would get done that is for the people and not what some company wants. Why is it legal for congressmen to take money for voting one way or the other but Bribing a Judge or a Cop for example would be illegal?
The system needs to change, this isnt the same country as it was in the early 1900's.
