Tuesday, I spent 5 hours wiring up a radar kit. This is not a normal kit though, as I added the ZR3 shifter from escort. I think this could have been a 3.5 hr install, but since I never took apart this car before, there is always the exploring part. I had to mount two sensors in the front, one in the back, and the radar unit by the rearview mirror. Here are some FYIs on the car.
Rear seats come out very easily. On the bottom left and right of the back seats, there are 2 pull cords (one on each side) to unlatch the bottom part of the rear seats. After that is out, there are 2 bolts, one for each side, to unmount the back of the rear seats. After the bolts are taken out, the seats are pushed up and out.
The foot trim pieces on both sides have 4 screws in each one. The plastic piece that is higher than the foot trim just has to be popped out with a little screw driver. Before trying to room the foot trim, the plastic covers around the seat guides must be removed. They are 2 pieces. They need to be popped out of the foot trim and the front piece has to be pulled forward. The bolt for the seatbelt was a 19mm bolt, which was unusual but easier.
There is a rubber boot on the firewall behind the glove box on the far right. You can see it also from the engine compartment to the left of the main harness. This is about a 3/4 inch hole.
The bottom black plastic air dam piece in the front would not come out. There is a couple plastic push pins easily accessible, but there is 2 more up in the bumper area that I could not get a mini screwdrive in. I was forced to crush my arm in there to get the front sensors in. I'm assuming there is a special tool for these push pins (there are the same pins as on the radiator plastic cover).
The trunk was not as easy as you would think. I ran the wire through the license plate light holes. I found out that the wire does not go into the trunk. There is a metal backing to that area with a rubber boot in the hole for the light wires to go through. I just drilled a hole in the boot to run the wires. The wires were just run along the right side of the trunk with the rest of the wires. There is a hole on the passenger side to enter the inside of the vehicle. That is why the rear seats were taken out.
Wiring for the radar to the rearview was put behind the driver side pillar. Don't forget to make sure that the clips are not still in the body otherwise, the pillar molding might not go back in correctly and the plastic might get cracked.
This about sums it up. Hope this helps out.
