I'm having a local shop do the install today after work. This is a dry kit with the rpm window switch and a bottle pressure guage. I'm going with a 100 shot. My questions are:
1. Do I need to descreen the maf?
2. Is changing the spark plugs a must? what exactly does this do or prevent?
Thank you

well.. i dont use a dry kit but I wouldnt descreen the maf.. They say to spray it into the air box so it fogs up and doesnt freeze the maf..
for plugs i reccomend ngk tr6 plugs gapped at 35.. should be a heat range cooler... you can get away a while with the stock plugs but they should really be changed...

Change the plugs to the tr6's. I have the same kit on my car. I left the tr55's in there at first and was getting detonation that I could here. I changed to the TR6's and no more knock.
Do like Robul said and turn the nozzles away from the maf, fog it into the airbox. If you spray it right at the maf it will freeze the maf. Then it won't register the extra air. Then it won't be able to add the extra fuel needed.
Don't descreen the maf.
PM me your email and I will send you some pictures of mine. I think it might help your installer.

well the shop didn't know what they were doing and after i told them countless times to spray before the maf, they didn't....they put the nozzle an inch from the throttle body...yikes! they don't know where to spray cause of the k&N....im not sure either.....maybe right at the cone but at a slight angle? any suggestions?

I'm thinking u could go right after the filter on a slight angle toward the maf but not directly at it...This sucks as I wanna do the kit too but I have KN CAI :(

Now, go out and spray the heck out of the engine. Next, when it blows up, have said shop replace for free!

don't do it my friend....unless you like fabricating....i was just on the parts for sale section looking for a stock airbox....like an idiot, i threw mine away.....the shop called me, they feel bad about drilling into my tube so he ordered me a new one....just the tube part.....i wonder what he pays for something like that.

Drilla small hole in the plactic neck of the K&N (just befor ethe filter) and put the nozzle in there to spray at a 90 degree angle. It works nicely on my car.

thanks doc, we've been waiting for someone to point us in the right direction....what about at the top of the cone but at a 45* angle? or would that spray out of the filter?

May spray out.
About the heat shield - I will have to get another look under my hood and get back to you.

We did a dry kit on a cai. We put the nozzles in the air filter spraying away from the maf. We sprayed on the dyno. When it first sprays the nitrous comes out of the filter some, but makes an arc and goes back into the filter. Then it doesn't come out of the filter as rpms go up. It was pretty cool looking. It didn't seem to affect the power. It doesn't come out of the filter hard enough to blow the oil off of the filter. This was a couple of months ago. He has not had any problems.

We installed the nozzles in the bottom of the filter element. The nozzles pointed away from the maf (in the opposite direction). We ran it through the bottom of the element, because he wanted it hidden. You can install the nozzles in the black rubber part of the filter were the maf clamps on. Still point them away from the maf.

Why not point it towards the otherside of the tube right past the filter on a slight angle?

this is just getting more confusing....we need pics/diagrams/flow charts etc.......but seriously, i just got off the phone with NOS technical support and they said they wouldn't point the nozzle less than 4-6 inches from the maf....for whatever thats worth....i'm probably gonna do what Doc did and eventually try to find a stock airbox....i'll get a maf pipe and call it a day.
amen

Our man has been contemplating going with the "upgrade to wet kit" option someday. I'm familiar with NOS kits, but mainly on imports, where things like MAFs didn't come into play.
What would be involved with the "upgrade?"
Would a wet kit spray NOS and fuel into the intake?
If so, would it be before the TB?
Would it need to be before the MAF?
Would it solve this mounting problem or exacerbate it?

I'd go with Doc's setup. Its at a perfect spot on his CAI...If i'm not mistaken it was inside the shield. 90 degrees to the MAF at the base of the filter.
Seen it in person and at the track, no issues that I know of.

well, i acquired a stock airbox from a fellow board member but i just couldn't get myself to put it back on my car....i loved the feel of the k&n and can't part with it just yet....im gonna give the boys at the shop one more shot at this....if i don't feel good about the setup then i guess i'll have to put the stocker back on and get maf pipe from JHP

I'll see if I can get pics in the next day. I am trapping 118 with simple bolt-ons and a 60 dry shot. That is as good or a little better then a lot of H/C setups. H/C is usually 114-117 traps. Of course they don't have to re-fill a bottle every so often but I spent a 10th on the mods . . . :gr_devil:
