In fact, I haven't seen a 2005 commercial in quite a while. Don't know that you could tell the difference between the 2.
At 3 a.m. Saturday Morning on the History Channel I did see a commercial for the new 303hp Monte Carlo SS. Nice car except that it is front wheel drive. Definitely noticeably different styling cues, but overall very similar to the GTO. Price starts at $28k. My point? Why do they need a 303hp Monte when they already have the GTO? Why does GM keep competing with itself? And have they stopped advertising the GTO?

Last I saw, GM did it's GTO advertising on Speed channel (which I don't have). I have seen 2 or 3 commercials with our GTOs in them. Typically, I only see them once. :bomb: Considering the amount of ads for the '98-'02 F-bodies, GM won't make any effort for the '06 GTO ads. More print ads than t.v.
Yeah, you'll still occassionally catch a TV ad on Speed Channel but that's about it. GM knows that pretty much anyone who'd be interested in this car probably already knows all about them without having to see them on TV. ;)

not to nit pick or anything but I think you typo'ed that HP rating, it's 303, like the monte and the Grand prix GXP.

Didnt typo, just heard it wrong on the tele I guess... Sounded like 330, but I was kinda in shock to see them pimping the Impala and I have yet to see a single GTO ad.... Thanks for the correction on that...
So is the Impala SS getting the LS1 I take it?

Nope LS4 is the name I've seen. It's a 5.3L with DOD.

My mom used to own a dress shop. Every week, she'd go to the clothing mart to buy new stuff. Sometimes I'd go with her to help carry and pay for her product. Often, she would be stopped by a vendor who would tell her he'd give her a great price on some dresses. She always refused because she said the more they have to sell it, the harder it will be for her to sell it in her store. Good merchandise will sell itself.
Now, look at the car commercials- what do you see advertise? If the stuff could sell itself, why pay for ads?

Well since most of the general public don't know jack about this car, not knowing it was V8 or even RWD
It is true that not everyone would buy this car though and with limited production they are not worried about selling it as with other cars.
The impala is much more practical then the GTO for a DD, only car for most people. Also some people are afraid of RWD and winter, since they were brainwashed into thinking FWD is better all around after the whole FWD craze started.
Which is why It should sell more then the GTO, even if the GTO wasn't limited and production schedule and such were equal (which it isn't)

It isn't too difficult to figure out. GTO sells roughly 12k cars a year, the Monte Carlo about 60-70k. The GTO is in its third year in the US and the Monte is somewhat "new" for 2006.
Now, if you were doing ads (at many dollars per ad), what would you advertise for the company?

Nice GTO advertisement in the new Motor Trend.
miscreant

You won't see 2006 GTO commercials, if they will exist, until the car is available on the lot. There's no reason to advertise for a car that people cannot go out and buy immediately.

from what i heard gm wont place an ad for this reason they are scared that if they do place ad they will loose the sales of the corvette. it sounds stupid but in way makes sense $30k car makes same hp and performes same as corvette which would u buy. just a thought

They would only loose sales to a point. Remember, this is the last year for this GTO. There will be no more imported than in '05 (~18,000). The Bowling Green plant builds over 25,000 "Vettes a year. And those are distributed to Europe as well as the States.

I don't even see ads for 'Vettes. Maybe they are looking for car mags to praise the car & basically give free advertising. At that pace, GTOs will be sitting on dealers' lots until the next-gen GTO comes out.

i dont know about that the gtos down here dont stay on lots long. then again most of them have 2 maybe 3 on lot ex. macnamara pontica in orlando fl, lets just say when i bought mine they had 20 on lot and another 25 comming in. but still they dont last long.the only time i hear anything advertised is when there is some kind of shoot out .

My dealership in town had 5 for about a month. Now, they are down to 3. I can't imagine going looking for a limited model like these & finding 20+ there.

this is why the f-bodies had "de-tuned" LS1s on paper....
i've seen a TV ad for the GTO....it's kinda short and it shares the ad with the G.P. GXP, but they DO show the goat.
