ok I'm given the address 112.14.16.87
i know this is a class A address. so the default mask is 255.0.0.0 I am instructed to barrow 8 bits so that gives me a mask of 255.255.0.0 I know that my number of subnets is 254 and my actual number is 252 . and that my network address is 112.14.0.0 i need to know how man host I can have and like the 1st 2 ranges ......anyone give me some help with this....

254 subnets with a total 65536 hosts if that is what you are after

im not sure that they have given you the right info. Are you an ISP or has an ISP given you this info?

If your network address is 112.14.0.0, your address of 112.12.16.87 makes no sense.

Who gave you these addresses? They're still part of a reserved block, I think... I don't think any ISP owns them.

go to www.solarwinds.net and get their subnet calculator....slightly cheating...but...it works
