Cliff notes: 12.505 @ 109.54 with a 1.792 60-foot. :)
Wow. What a day. First, I had the "funeral from hell" - a sweet old lady whose family left in the middle of the service to go to the local courthouse to sue each other. I thought I had seen it all, having done hundreds of funerals. Guess not. At least the ride out to the cemetary was fun - the local police and sheriff wanted to ride with me. :)
So, I decided to "declare myself a bonus" and took the 2.5 hour trip to the best local 1/4 mile strip at the end of the day. Radar shows showers popping up all over. I put my trust in the Big Guy. As I get closer, sure enough, a rainbow on the horizon over my destination.
Track is still wet, we wait for it to dry, first set of runs, everyone is all over the place. I pull a 13.0 @ 109. No way I am going home with a 13-second timeslip, but the 109 is very intriguing.
Mind you, a couple changes on my car: weighed in at 3785, 80 lbs less than my last run at this same track (took out only the spare and jack); borrowed a set of rims with drag radials (stock size, 17's, 5 lbs less than stock); and on top of a quarter tank of 93 gas, I added 3 gallons of 100 octane unleaded.
I get to the track, and guess what? I'm missing a lug and another is lose. I spent hours putting on those d*rn rims, even bought a new torque-wrench. Sigh. I didn't like these rims to begin with, but whatever.
Also, I've never raced on drag radials before. It showed. First run, a 2.1 60-foot. The drying track might have had something to do with it, but maybe I just smoked 'em too much.
Next run, I decide to do what I'm good at: I just flash-torque the converter (rev it to 1500-1800 and then just punch it).
12.556 @ 109.67 with a 1.855 60-foot.
So, next, someone blows up and the track shuts down for an hour. "Tony" comes to tell me that he just won $100 off me. Seems the announcers said I was a Mustang, and he won a bet with a friend who said I wouldn't run better than a 12.8. I told Tony he owed me a case of beer. :)
Next and final run: 12.505 @ 109.54 with a 1.792 60-foot.
Before the night began, I told everyone that if I ran a 12.5 @ 110, I'd be a happy camper. Close enough, so this means we get the dancing smilie:

Oh, and on my first 12-second run I did all GTO's proud by smoking a modded-Cobra on slicks. Pulled an 0.077 reaction time. :) He ended up with a 13.154 @ 104, a good 6/10ths behind me. :)
What was sweet this time was that I didn't need the holeshot. :D

I love the idea of Padre heading for the track, weather threatening, and the Big Guy shines a rainbow for him. God must drive a GTO.
I must say, your 1/4 mile runs are much more impressive than that 1/8th mile vid. Not that an 8.29 is shabby, but with all you've done I expected more. What you're seeing in the 1/4 is more evidence that our Goats need a little room to stretch their legs. And then WATCH OUT!

Yeah, I agree. The 8.29 was on street tires at a bad track. And these things are built for the 1/4, which is why I drove the 2.5 hours. But I knew from the 8.29 that I was shooting for at least 12.7 @ 106. The 12.5 @ 109 was just awesome. :)

Weight: 3785 lbs. Temp: 85F. Humidity: 80%. Barometer: around 30. Altitude, about 600 feet. Place: Silver Dollar Raceway, Reynolds, GA. (Ignore the time stamp on the slip - it was 8-10pm.)
Both opponents in the left lane were Mustangs. :) #70 seemed to have missed hitting his nitrous, #2 was a modded Cobra on drag slicks. :)

That gear is actually quite liveable on the street the way the Mustang trans is geared.
After driving a Mach 1 (or any 4V Mustang except '03/'04 Cobra) with 4.30's/4.10's in it for 15 minutes, you'll wonder why they didn't come from the factory that way... ;)

Checking over at Sean Mattingly's, using the A4 numbers and the 4.30 axle ratio it would appear an A4 Goat rev limited to 6500 RPM would still bounce off the 155 MPH speed limiter in 4th. Wow! Hmmmm..............

I agree they need a gear we had one of the first 03 Sonic blue cobras in Atlanta to mod out, after two months at the end of 2002 we had the thing at 501 RWHP cold and 498RWHP hot with no headers, I ran it to a 11.2 at 126.5 mph it was a blast to drive. All I was stating is gearing gets you ET it is easy to shave off a half second with a change from 3.46 to 4.10 and as with the mustang it is a heavy car as is the GTO.

Hey I know this isn't exactly the right place to be asking this but why didn't you go with a higher stall than 2800?
Good question. Mainly because I wanted streetability. Also, in my experience, higher stall tends to be a tradeoff between ET and traps and your highway driving suffers (the TC will slip a lot more). However, the 2800 was about the lowest I could go given my cam.
When I go full dragrace and want only the fastest ET, then I might go higher.

Alas, when I ran my first 12-second run, the announcers thought I was a Mustang.
And for STi: I think high-10's won't be that difficult, technically: 4:10 gears, 100-shot, ET-streets, good weather, and lose a couple-hundred pounds. I'm not saying nothing will break or that I could daily-drive the car, but I think it can be done.

But Sean at MDMC ran an 11.4 on his M6 w/ a 75 shot (12.2 @ 113 without) on a hot muggy day (basically the same package as mine and I even borrowed his rims) and didn't break anything. Thing is, he was *trying* to break something, to find out where the weak link is.
Consensus is that the 4L60/65E A4 in the Goat is even stronger than the M6.

Alright. I was just wondering because a lot of my A4 F Body friends run anywhere from 3500 all the way up to 4400, mainly PI's and Yank's. And these are all daily driven street cars with basically the same mods that you have.
Most of these guy's are slicked up though, mainly because a 4400 stall can and will blow street tires away up to 30-40mph. And yea the car is going to feel more and more sluggish when you up the stall and you are light on the gas, but you get used to it.
Oh and the other reason I asked this is because there are a few homos from other boards that are going around saying, "hey look at this guy, he's got heads cam and exhaust and he's only running a 12.5. Why is he so excited?" It's clear that some of these guy's don't know what the hell they are talking about and it would be nice if they would keep their comments to themselves.

Really. Let's see these fellows take their 4400-stall slicked-up F-bodies on a 4000-mile roadtrip (as I just did).
If I'd wanted to go that route, I could have, but by the numbers (dyno, weight, gearing, traction, weather), my car is doing exactly what it should do and what I wanted it to do. The haters can go :barf: .

Cosmos Guy, sounds like you got your hands full. :) In my profession, we say to ourselves, "Ah, the joys of celibacy!" Good luck, Cosmos Guy. ;) :D

Nice . . . LOL!!! :gr_jest:
Actually, once that big stall converter locks up, its like a stocker on the highway. Its the constant engine noise and going nowhere without throttle that is a pain. High stalls are definitely not stop and go friendly.

The largest thing I see as a problem with the GTO is its weight and the gearing it comes with, this car should have a 3.73 at the least in the rear end. What people forget is "wow my car makes the same power but weights 300 pounds less, has a 3500 stall and a set of 4.10 out the back" Now gee I wonder why its faster again? :sneaky: :sneaky:
O Padre I am going to brake this damn GOAT next time we have ET streets for the back and skinnys for the front a 150 shot of nitrous and a 4500 rpm launch something is going to give or its going bottom 11's or high tens in a 6 speed.

Hehe, go for it. Let me know where/when you do.
And then you can loan me the ETs and skinnies and we'll see what we can break on an auto. :)

And for STi: I think high-10's won't be that difficult, technically: 4:10 gears, 100-shot, ET-streets, good weather, and lose a couple-hundred pounds. I'm not saying nothing will break or that I could daily-drive the car, but I think it can be done.

I stick with what I said, "easier said than done." ;)
I know of SO MANY people who are lingering right at 11.2, 11.1, 11.0001, etc and just can't break any lower than that for the life of 'em. If you get lucky and pick the exact right set-up suspension-wise, rubber-wise and power-wise the first time, then you're in the minority.
You definitely stand a much better chance at accomplishing this once the car is no longer streetable, so you can ditch the interior and gut all the audio/sound deadening material and put in a rollcage...
But if you keep it full interior and legal, well, you've got your work cut out for ya! But that's half the fun right? :)

And I don't disagree. That's why I added, "technically". :)

It's gonna be fun trying, though, ain't it? :)

O dont get me wrong when I break it I will be paying for it nothing in life is free, but I need to know for my customers. We did the same thing with the Z06 but at 9.8's still nothing in the drive train has broken. YET
