I have 2 puters, 1 is desk top and 1 laptop. I have both connected to my wireless router and have changed the password and have WEP encrypted the router.

My question is this; How do I make it so I can use my laptop in the living room, but still print to the printer at the desktop without literally hooking the laptop up to the printer?

thanks in advance

You'll need to share the printer on your network either via a print server device or directly hooked up and shared on another computer.

I would not use WEP, it is easily cracked - use WPA.

Should be easiest to just have the desktop share the printer, then you can print to it
that way.

The printer is hooked up directly to the desktop in the other room.. I want to know how to "tap" into the printer using the wireless system from my laptop?

Its been a while since I had to do this but just install the printer as a shared network printer, then copy its address. On your laptop, install a network printer and type in the address and you should be good to go.

Go into your printer on the Desktop and right click and then click properties, you
will see a tab for sharing.....give the printer share a name, then on the laptop
setup the printer to print to a networked printer and point it to the share on
the desktop.

Oh, and this setup will require your desktop computer to be on in order to print to
the printer.

Agree WEP is easy to crack but better than nothing.
Go WPA
