ok, my laptop has been real slow lately. I've run all my stuff (virus checkers and adaware), and I have used disk cleaner. It is still slow!!!

if I click; control, alt, delete, it has just one thing running under applications, but has 51 things running under processes.. Are these 51 things slowing me down? if so, which do I "end process"??

thanks

Sort it by CPU and see what's at the top (it should be System Idle Process), then sort by Mem Usage and see what's up there.

Report back here.

system idle is around 80ish (at bottom of list--literally), but it has highest number.

mem usage is highest with; avgwb.dat (26,424k), avgamsvr.exe (16,972), iexplore.exe (19,488k), avgemc.exe (12,688), explorer.exe (13,752k), svhost.exe (13,516k), avengine.exe (12,040k),

and there's more, but those are the highest.

That's svchost.exe, not svhost.exe, right?

If System Idle Process is only at 80%, what's next after it?

system idle process is like it (going from 98 down to 80ish) and then everything else is pretty much 0's.

yeah, svchost.exe..

sounds like your AVG is stuck on an update actually. Try killing that avgwb.dat the worst that can happen is you will break your AVG til you reboot

That seemed like more processes than necessary for an antivirus program, but I've never dealt with AVG so I didn't know.

I was assuming he had rebooted already.
