View Full Version : Methanol / Alky Injection

Hm. Quick question, I've tried looking up what I could on this, but I don't see many posts which would answer my question. Obviously looking at several things, eventually (whenever money rolls in..) planning on some LT headers, ATI Procharger, and some Nitrous (heck, whynot eh?).
Been seeing alot about meth injection. Just curious, is it a real benefit on a stock system?
Would it also be useful in conjunction with Nitrous, or at least, a less expensive small boost when you're out of Nitrous? :gr_jest:
Does anyone run both?
Installation is a snap it seems, and it's not too expensive. Just want to see the benefits of it before I hopped on it. Currently working on getting a catch can, BMR strut bar, Hotchkiss, etc.. So the engine mods would be next on the list.

I am still working on my driving ability and once I learn how to drive it as it sits without the nitrous or Methanol...then I may consider doing nitrous if I build the motor... but who knows. I know many people run methanol and love it.

I thinks it is primarily of benefit to those running forced induction. Methanol can enable you to run much higher boost on pump gas. Which leads to big power without using race gas. I am installing alky on mine to do just that. It will also help me in the summer time when air temps are high.
Methanol will increase octane and also cool the charge (air). Cooler air and fuel with higher octane will allow for higher boost. You need to tune the motor to take full advantage of it. I would suggest it later in your modding rather than early.

I've run water or alcohol injection on the last 4 supercharged projects I've done. With the 91 octane gas we get out here it is a very inexpensive way to make a lot more power. With alky you do get some air temp cooling and an octane boost, but it does a lot of it's work in the combustion chamber, absorbing excess heat. You will be able to run more boost/timing with it on pump gas, than without it. I don't do a street pump gas project without it.

DevilDoc has a nice kit for N/A motors. The digital proportional controller keys off the TPS. Simply dial in the amount and slope of the injection and slam the hood.
