I have a problem downloading pictures. They will not download consistently, sometimes I can see them and sometimes I don't. My McAfee viris scan is not detecting anything. The problem persists. I have comcast cable and windows xp operating system.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What browser are you using? What type of internet connection? Do you have trouble on certain websites or all of them? If its on all of them i could be that your browser is being proxied or your internet connection has a high latency. The latency can be caused by internet provider technical problems, or just a slow connection all together. The proxy is usually by a program that is supposed to block pop ups or spy/ad ware that is on your computer. Usually when your browser doesn't download the pictures it is timing out. Update your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer the update it at
http://update.microsoft.com
If you want to try another browser use www.mozilla.org, FireFox Browser only. You don't need Mozilla which is the whole e-mail, browser and other programs package. See if you get the same results.

yeah, first, stop using IE - get firefox instead at www.mozilla.org.
and if you're using outlook express, replace it with thunderbird at the same place. both IE and outlook express are horrible programs with huge security issues and a lack of features.

Yes, thanks, I tried the IE updates and downloaded 7 updates from the link you gave me. The trouble seems to be on all sites but not all the time. The connection is Comcast cable so the connection is reasonable fast. The page gives an error message " Page done loading, but with errors".:banghead:

Is it still happening? If so try clearing the cache of Internet Explorer.
Tools/Internet Options on the menu.
Choose Delete files... and possible clear the history although i doubt the history will affect it. Under the settings button there is a View Objects... Check there. You shouldn't have many programs other then the normal ones like Flash, Shockware or tools from various websites you normally go to. You can clear all of these. Basically these are the plug-ins for the browser. When you go to another site that has flash you can easily download flash again so i wouldn't worry.
I would download Spybot search and destroy and see what it turns up. Please update the program first, it should do it on the initial setup run through. You can down load it here.

Razinhell already said it, but i guess i'll chime in and say it too. Delete your internet cache and cookies. Firefox, while "seemingly" a good idea, will NOT solve your problem. If pictures don't show up in IE they damn sure won't in Firefox. Thats just how it goes. FF is a nice browser, don't get me wrong, but they get the same data from the same place, so that will not correct the issue. If you keep your system updated, you dont really have to worry about issues with IE (just be smart and don't dl any pr0n dialers and crap like that). Anyway, to circumvent your problem, when did this start happening? You say it doesn't do it all the time, just randomly correct? One other thing you can do, is go to IE, and go to Tools, Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, then scroll down to multimedia and make sure the "Show Pictures" check box is still checked. If that is still checked, let us know. Also, are you having any other strange problems along with the pictures not showing up, or is this it?

actually, you're way wrong on "if IE doesn't work, FF won't". IE is crap and getting rid of it is the first troubleshooting step you should take.

It's funny how ofter I hear this same stuff. I have been using IE forever and never had any problems with it.
But anywho...you said the page loaded but with errors. This will show an alert in the bottom left corner of the IE window, a yellow/orange triangle. Click on that and it will come up with a box that tells what the problem might be.

I personally prefer Firefox... It is an open source OS... It is more secure than ie.. and MUCH more customizable... Firefox is revolutionary! In fact IE 7.0 is going to be using tabbed browsing... hmmm I wonder where they thought that one up... LOL!
Firefox is NOT an opensource OS. It's an opensource application. OS would be Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Unix, FreeBSD, OS/2, etc. Also, i've used IE since day one and have never had a problem either. So "getting rid of it" will not solve anything. In fact, if you keep your system updated, run anti-virus software, spyware software and a firewall (which anyone this day and age should be), then you shouldn't have any problems either. But like MacDogg said, check to see if the page itself is whats having errors. It might not be anything wrong with your system at all. And FYI, if you hadn't noticed what works in IE will NOT "always" work in Firefox. Keep that in mind.

I say use whatever browser you prefer. It doesn't matter they all do the same thing in basically the same way. Now saying that what affects one will also affect the other, that isn't always true. What you want to do is rule out certain things. I said to down load Firefox only because if the same thing doesn't happen to it that happens to IE then i can only assume that another program is affecting the downloading of pictures within IE, like a plugin or ad/spy ware. Now if the same thing is happening to IE and the results are duplicated in Firefox well now i know for sure its something on the system or the actual connection and not the browsers.
I have used Internet Explorer since it came out and have never had a virus on any PC that i have ever owned. I did however find that Firefox was faster then IE when it first came out, at loading up pages. I have been to many websites that just don't function correctly in Firefox. Yet function perfectly in IE. I use both. I feel that Internet Explorer is a good browser that is just a huge target. Yeah virus writers and people with too much time on their hands will find loop holes in Firefox security, But i know for sure that it won't be a main target and have far less people attacking it then anything microsoft makes.

Thank you to everyone. My wife is much better at this then me but I will check into your suggestions.
IceBreakerG=Show pictures was still checked.
I've had IE for over 3 years with no problems.
We have done all kinds of scans, viris, adware, spyware etc. with no luck.
But will look into everything mentioned. Thanks again.
