View Full Version : Thinking Of New Tires

Well I like the stock 18" rims on the car. Though I'm not a fan of the 235 tires on it. So I'm wondering if I should get bigger/sticker tires to help lower my ET's, of it the stock ones are good enough for now. What would be the biggest tire I can go? I was thinking of some Nitto 555's (not DR's). The sizes in those I am looking at are 245/40/18's, 255/35/18's and 265/35/18's. I would really rather have a 255-265/40/18 all around if they can fit. So I'm also looking at the BFG g-Force T/A KDW's since they come in that size.

im not sure about the 18 inch rim, but im pretty sure that pontiac threw a 235 on there and not a 245 for rubbing issues, you might have problems unless you roll the fenders if you want anything bigger then a 235. but PM GMH GTO, he has holden 19's with the nitto 555s, but i dont know how wide he's runnin.

I thought I've seen a few people putting on 275/40/18's Nitto DR's on the stick rims?

Here are the tires I'm looking at. I would prefer to keep it in the $600-800 range.

BFG g-Force KD's 245-255/40/18's $225

BFG g-Force KDW DR's 245/40/18's $?

Falken FK-451's 245/40/18's 255/35/18's $150

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's 245/40/18's $260

Nitto 555's (not DR's) 245/40/18's & 255/35/18's $150

Nitto NT-01 DR's 245/40/18's $220

Toyo Proxes T1R's 245-255/40/18's $?

Yokohama AVS ES100's 245/40/18's $180

I run the Nitto 555 tires all around my GTO and love them. After 3k miles they still look brand new...even the rears which spend most of their time spinning when I go WOT...LOL

They ride nice and have a good tread design.

What size, and on the stock rims?

I have the 17" stockers with 245/45/17 tires. So the rest of your question I can't help with...sorry man! But I do like the tires!

Well you think I will have any problems with 245/40/18's? If not I will go ahead and get the Nitto NT-01 DR's.

I have no idea of the offset on those wheels or anything... I also would hate to be the person that says it will be fine and then you have crazy rubbing issues. So I will not say because I honestly have NO idea! Sorry man

I thought I read the backspacing was 48 somewhere.

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/faq.php?faq=new_faq_i tem13#faq_new_faq_item15 may help a bit...but seem my posted related to this item...still not convinced that some of these wheel and tire sizes actually exist, but it's useful food for thought anyway...good hunting on those wheels and tires!

Sounds good, looks like I'll be getting 4 Nitto NT-01 DR's.

I just picked up a set of the Nitto NT-01s. They are getting mounted on a set of spare rims for use on track days. After seeing them in person, and the fact that they have a tread wear rating of 100, I would NOT run them as street tires.

Lots of people run 555R's as street tires. Only getting 8-12k miles out of them dosen't bother me at all.

NT-01s and 555s two different tires.

I understand that, but they both have the same tread rating.

Well I believe I made up my mind. For the rears I think I will go with the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial. Then for the fronts I will go with the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW . Should be a nice combo, both 245/40/18's.
