I am trying to make a 5mm spacer for our cars using the cad software on EMachineShop.com and I'm failing miserably. Any enineers out there that are pretty good with a design software?

Dont bother, it'd be f'kin expensive anyway... Trust me. (Been there, done that.)

Just buy some cheepo ones from JC Whitney or something.

I poked around with that for about 15 minutes, and I would just say don't bother with something like that. Not sure if that is supposed to be a cad type software or what.....but it's horrible.

For something as easy as a wheel spacer, if you want something custom, just go to a machine shop and ask them to make you a few. Easy part and you'd be better off just telling them what you want, and they will take care of the rest. You are better off just going with something premade though (much cheaper!)

Well every where I have called...noone has a 5mm spacer is unwilling to make it. What are my options. I'm tired of chewing up tires on my strut brace. $1000 tires don't come in the mail every day.

not hard to make need some sheet metal, drill, jig saw, and chalk line chalk. grinder or sandpaper. either buy 5 mm or stack a cupple piecer or go thicker. rough cut the sheet. tape to back of wheel hit with chalk through bolt holes, drill holes cut down or mark it to size. wala spacer.

unless hubsentric then you have to get into some bending.

The thick "BMW" ones would not be hub centric because the bore is too large.

I've designed some exactly like the ones they offer but nobody wanted them at the time so I dropped it. Price would have been similar if not slightly less for a set of 2.

Still want a CAD model?

Got your PM...this company seems to be pretty complete. I think I'm going to let them work it out.

Got this e-mail from them:

Ryan,
We can sell you a 5mm spacer off the shelf ($8.97), which is a generic type (fits all 5 lug) or we can custom make a hubcentric
spacer that is cut to fit your vehicles hub bore. They are $39.95. If you want custom made and be hubcentric to your wheels as well,
we need to know some stuff.........
Are your wheels aftermarket? If so, what is the centerbore of the wheel?
If they are factory, you will loose the hubcentricity of your wheel to vehicle and probable should just get the ones off the shelf.
If you want them to be hubcentric to both wheel and vehicle and they are factory wheels then they have to be minimum of 13mm and
you won't have any stud left. You'd have to get longer studs installed.
If you still are not clear on all this, give me a call..........

$40 each is a bargin for a custom spacer. I'm guessing they do their own machine work... It would be considerably higher for the most part if you ordered them through a typical machine shop in a quantity of one or two run on a CNC Lathe.
