What is the widest tire that will fit the gto? I like wide rear tires and wonder if some 18x10 30-35 315 would work or is there a way to get them to fit.
Welcome to LS2GTO.com. Feel free to use our nifty Search feature. :)

Welcome aboard. You'll find (after the search) that a few guys run 285's. To do it, though, they've rolled or trimmed their fender lips and have chosen the rear wheel's offset very carefully.

to get a 315 to fit will take some work.
BMR
<-----somewhere there
has a good write up on their site. They where able to make a wider AND taller than stock tire to fit. I think they ended up at a 295 width but with a 27.5" tire rahter than the stock ~26" tire.
I too would like to run 315's and plan on getting that accomplished this winter. Im hoping that similar mods to BMR's minus the taller tire and maybe a few extra tweaks can get this done.

JusticePete is running 315/30/18s on his car, but he's obviously running the justice kit.

The justice kit is a flare / splitter package from AFG (Sponsor on the left)

The flares look very tacked on in the pictures, however, in real life they flow very well with the vehicle and look great. I have a set of their flares on my GTO, however, I haven't had the cash to do the rims and tires package yet. Mine has a much different look than Pete's car, both IMO are awesome.

My 275/40/18 BFG g-Force T/A KD rubs on the fender, bumper, and steel lip on the inside of the wheel well. The steel lip is located behind the plastic rock guard (plastic has a hole worn in it). My wheel is a 18X9 +52mm offset. If the offset was higher, it would rub worse on the steel lip. If the offset was lower, it would rub worse on the fender and bumper.

Would those be Drift-R's?

those are drift R specs, but I have the 19x9 drift R's with toyo Proxies T-1R's and they don't rub on either the inner or outer lips.
Either they sent him the wrong offset or the BFG's are much wider then the toyos.

No Drift-Rs
I don't think anyone can get a 275/40/18 BFG g-Force T/A KD to fit with only fender rolling. You have to cut out the fender lip or cut out some plastic. Maybe even take a sledge hammer or torch to the steel on the inside.
I have rolled the fender lip all the way (pressed against the body of the car), cut out the plastic, sledge hammered the steel, sanded the bumper, sanded the tire...and it still rubs all over the place. The steel was tough as hell! But I didn't give up, I just kept pounding it for about an hour and I did make some progress. I tried to cut the steel with some big metal snips, but forget that. NO WAY anyone can cut that without a torch. I ordered some new shocks this morning, so hopefully this will minimize the problem.
But the tire does look good on the car.

I just put Toyo Proxes T-1R's on, spec is 255/35/18, I was gonna do 255/40/18 but the guy at the tyre place said by going to 35 the gearing would remain pretty much the same, It threw the speedo out by about 10% though... Do you guys notice this when you put bigger tyres on? (I aplogize for the thread hijak in advance)

Mine are 265/30/19 and they are pretty close if not excactly the same height as the stock 245/40/17 tires. The speedo at least on the 04 is already 2.9% high.:banghead:
