Yeah, the LS2 is going to be hot, but I have no complaints on my LS1, it
is an awesome beast that can modded easily if you like. I just like the
fact that the nostrils will help cool the engine bay and thus decrease
temp. for the intake.

Not that I'm bragging or anything. :D. My post from January 04 at the PY boards. :)
The 2005 GTO will be powered by the new LS2 6.0 liter 400HP V-8. It will also have twin hood scoops to give it a more distinctive appearance. Also 18" inch wheels will be standard instead of 17's. Different spoiler than the 2004 and possibly a spoiler delete option.
Whether this is the standard engine, or an upgrade in a hiperf version of the GTO I don't know. I was only told the above.
Good. I see I called the 18" wheel option somwhat correctly. Told they would be standard, but now an option which is a good thing. The spoiler still seems to be the same, but I still believe a spoiler delete option may happen. :D You guys should have just taken my word from the beginning and all this speculation would have been over with a long time ago. :D

I think I told some before that I have a good friend at the GM Tech Center and a contact Holden. I ask questions, and sometimes they give me answers. :D
Now FWIW: The Chevy car that everyone thinks is coming out in 07 as a Camaro....... Wrong. It won't be named Camaro. It will be based on the Chevy SS Concept though. We'll see if I'm right on this one also.

I suspect that some 05 items, such as hood, larger brakes will be made available 2nd qtr of 2005. Don't know about pricing, but probably should be fairly reasonable.

I think GMPP CNC ported LS6 heads, LS6 or MTI cam, a decent air intake, 3/4 JBA's and stock or better street legal duals, and a professional tune oughta keep peace in the family myself..... JMHO

Think about how much you would be in the whole to trade up. Then think, you could probably buy everything needed to upgrade for under $10k. Then you still have to install it, yes, but if you're a grease monkey you can do it yourself. I am not however and I don't plan on sacrificing my GTO to learn. :)

Well, when your ready to give it up, rip off that tint and give me a holler. That first year 385hp ZO6 became a stepchild after the 405hp hit the streets the very next year. There is no reason to think that wont happen to our beloved GTO, which was already a stepchild of sorts. I for one still long for any GTO I can get my hands on, be it 04 or 05. So when those people who have to have the "latest greatest" take a loss on their cars. Like Wacko Jacko once said, "I'll be there".

Well, the only question left is what the MSRP will be, and what Monaro wheels they chose to be optional. I'm very disappointed they did not add Tiger Mica (metallic orange) to the colors, but Vespers and Turbine look nice none the less.
And don't worry 04 owners, you can mod your cars to be better than stock 05s quite easily.
I still may buy an 04 depending on how cheap I can get one. The cheaper I get the car, the more money I have for HSV goodies.

Somehow all this excitement will all die when these folks finally sit down at the dealer/managers office and they figure out how much their monthly payment is going to be on a hyperinflated sky is the limit final out the door price on the LS2 GTO. I have a feeling a lt of folks are going to be seriously disappointed as if cold water was splashed on their faces, and realize these cars are going to cost a LOT of money.

FWIW, here's my take on this:
LS2 400HP/395TQ
I'm pretty happy with the LS1. If I want more power, I can mod it for less than a trade-in.
Duel snorkel hood for increased engine cooling
I prefer the sleek hood of the '04. If I were buying the '05, the scoops would be a big negative for me.
Bigger brakes w/RED GTO engraved calipers
This is very interesting and I'll be checking this out as a bolt on for my '04. I feel the brakes are a weak link.
18in Wheel option
I could go either way on this one.
Split rear exhaust
Again, I could go either way on this one. The new exhausts look pretty cool, but I like the stealth of the single exit, true duals on the '04.
Revised gauges with higher redline tach
Dead pedal
I still need to install the dead pedal kit I bought from mlc. I'd like to see how the '05 attaches and if it will be stronger than the arrangement that Frank came up with.
2 new colors Midnight Blue and Cyclone grey
I love my IBM with blue interior, but these two colors sound very interesting. I want to know what the interior color choices are for these. I think the multi-color GTO interiors are beautiful.

Those are YOUR dealers in YOUR area. When I went into a dealership in my area (Nebraska) and told them that they are being marked up $5K in some places they looked at me like I was nuts. They were ASKING MSRP and were willing to deal from there. Sorry about your luck...
And besides, I'm still saving for a huge down. By the time I buy (next spring) even the dealers in your area will probably be selling for MSRP. I know mine will.
There's another guy in here from Omaha who could confirm this. The 04's were MSRP from day one and there seem to be a lot of them around this area for some reason.

Bigger wheels sometimes look better. They may aid in better grip around corners. Negatives are a little rougher ride and sometimes harder to launch. I am no expert so there are probably more.

My Take on this thing (yea, I stole it from Tiggerfan)
LS2 400HP/395TQ
Modding the car now. 400 hp isn't that far away. At the wheels if the money holds out.
Duel snorkel hood for increased engine cooling
I'm looking forward to adding this to my car. But one thing bothers me. "increased engine cooling" Tells me that it isn't plumbed into the intake, just a heat vent. If that is the case, PFYC Hood looks better to me.
Bigger brakes w/RED GTO engraved calipers
Ditto to Tigger here. I will likely buy a set.
18in Wheel option
I kind of like the 17's There is enough weight on the car already.
Split rear exhaust
Here I differ from Tigger. I have SW LT's on the way and will likely have the SLP side exit duel catback in a month or two. 05's exhaust is a moot point.
Revised gauges with higher redline tach.
Different engine will have a differnent red line. They had to get 400 HP somewhere.
Dead pedal
I have an MLD Pedal on order.
2 new colors Midnight Blue and Cyclone grey
I'm not a big fan of the IBM or the Barbados. I like the pics I have seen of the Midnight blue. Grey is grey. I will miss the Cosmos.
And that is all I have to say about that.

Can't say theirs too many advantages other then asthetics, will cause a lower gear ratio, bigger wheels couple extra lbs. When I had the Commodore SS in aus I always liked to put on some 15" steel cop car wheels and burn the hell outta the tires :gr_jest:
top speed will be a little higher with bigger wheels.
I'm not going to be pesimistic at all towards the '05 GTOs or owners, I just like the car as is.

Won't the 18's just use different rubber to keep the same OD as the 17's? That would keep top speed and Gear ratio the same. Their main purpose is aesthetics and increasing the unsprung weight.

Yup, trade-in value will be a show stopper. The fact is it isn't likely I'll be trading for an 05. I'm just a little angry (hasn't shown too much has it?) that GM new it was doing a ls2 for the 05 when I was buying my 04. Just doesn't seem right they should push the 04 out like that because the ls2 wasn't quite ready for production. I'll get over it.

If they keep the same aspect ratio it will be a larger tire, I couldn't see them going below 45 aspect ratio, even at 40 it would still be larger.

Ready for my $.02???
I'm going to be ordering a 2005 ASAP. The dealer called today and said that they would know allocations in a few weeks. Ordering could start shortly after that.
Now the 2004 GTO's are being sold for $29,800 in a lot of areas. Their sales were below what GM predicted so I cannot imagine they will sell these for over MSRP. That is a good deal and saves a lot of "mod" money, but I think with the intro of the LS2 in a non-vette car the same year it debuts in the vette is a milestone for GM - I gotta have one.
The bumped redline is a mystery to me as the car makes it's 400HP at 5200RPM and it's 395FT/LBS at 4000RPM??? Imagine the dyno sheet if it flatlines at 5200 and stays there all the way to 6500!!!
The hood is just for looks... only difference I need to know is if it glass or not - any weight savings on these cars would be huge! All in all - I don't care aout anything other than the LS2. Love my LS1 to death, but it is time to step up!

A 245/40-18 is only 0.1" bigger in circumference which boils down to pretty much nothing in diameter.
Top speed won't be higher, if anything it will be lower due to higher unsprung weight. I am of course assuming that the 18"s are not made in some ultra-light manner.
Handling limit (g's) should be higher. Steering "reaction" time will be lower, steering inputs will feel quicker.
