love it or hate it, the car isnt legal for formula D competition next season. the new rules state all steering, subframes and suspension must be OEM connecting points. i.e. no custom control arms to fit suspension off of another vehicle, or fully custom 1 off pieces.
this is gonna boot the GTO too as it uses a S14 rear subframe/suspension.

Funny. I remember how excited all the import guys were that America was finally getting involved. They couldn't wait to see Vettes and Vipers drifting.....we all know how far that went.
Does this restriction affect any of the other teams?

Hmm, first I heard of that. Seems kinda strange to put an S14 rear on a GTO, though. Massive weight difference and the GTO goes sideways quite happily as is. . . Wonder why that was done?

Thats because it has stock gto subframes(with modified steering rack location) and control arms. It doesn't have Nissan part on it.

alot of the local import guys get pissed when i bring up the fact the gto won formula d. figures they would find a way to screw the gto and give the imports a leg up. bunch of pussies, if the gto cant compete next year i WONT be watching formula d. all they did was alienate a bunch of fans in a sport that needs all the fans they can get at this point.

by the same rules as well. Rhys is sponsored by Pontiac, among others, so I'm sure they will come up with a new car that fits within the rules.
He was so dominant, they had to do something, or interest in the sport would suffer.
No biggie as I see it. The Japanese officials even tried to screw Rhys with some crucial bad calls, and still couldn't keep him from winning. I think in the last race Rhys intentionally let the dude he raced in the final win, when he had the championship locked up, just to show he (Rhys) could be beaten. JMHO.

I agree,
I don't think that it is fair unless everyone else has to play by the same rules, you know many of those teams swap motors from other cars and any HONDA car out there must have custom supension (save for S2K or NSX) .

Guys, it's the essence of Import vs. Domestics. Have you ever been to Shootout at the local dragstrip? It's hilarious. The imports can pretty much run whatever the hell they want while the domestics are usually limited to only one power adder. The domestics usually still dominate anyways.
But it's like the comment from before, It has to be done to keep the field competitive.

I say either A. imports need better drivers or B. the imports better bring better cars. period. Run what you brung and if it isn't enough too bad. Don't cry that the domestic car beat you at your own game.

Wouldnt say they need better drivers...Japanese drift drivers are amazing drivers (One was drifting a HSV on top gear and was awesome...First time he drove it too) Personally i think its just V8 engines are easier to drift... Take TC off and go to a drift event in a stock V8 car while the imports have lots of suspension mods and you will probably put on a better show with the V8.
Personal opinion, probably many will disagree.

We should be happy we even Get the D1 Grand Prix in the US and they let American cars compete like the GTO, Viper, Mustang etc...Just like any other type of racing some makes of cars have different rules than others yet there in the same class and running virtually the same rules. Guess they felt that some cars (GTO etc..) had an unfair advantage over the others.
Like i said before the American cars were booed at the first D1 till one of the Japanese drift guys gave em the thumbs up after he did a run and well since then they have been pretty popular...

That's because the majority of people at the comp's are ricers. They hate all cars except the almightly Japan imports:rolleyes:
Drifting is more driver skill then the car.....it isn't a race in that which is faster. So it is not like the other motorsports...

well speed does play a role in drifting. if your car is pulling away from the person following you because you have more power then the other guy looks lame. if you have more power you can drift faster and possibly pass the leader. alot of those imports were having problems keeping pace with the gto and mustang.

Because him and the GTO kicks thier all thier asses...maybe that's why....even though his race weight = thier starting full stock weight, and he doesn't have to run tire pressure PSI into his engine to make 400+ RWHP...hmmm Can't beat him, get him kicked out or restricted, to "make it more fair"

lol, that charger is a mash up. how i figure they settled on a design was a very complex process. you see they took a person, not just any person, but that one guy who rides a bus all day for fun and gave him post it sized pictures of all different dodge parts, they threw them at him, literally, and which ever ones stuck to him became parts of the car. (the front compilation of a magnum neon and ram, the magnum sides) its a very complex process that is called "waste of talent, potential, and money"

I was talking to a guy over at RMR about some things for my GTO, mainly bushings and other suspension mods, he said Noltec had sent them some gear but they didn't know if they would use it or not. So I assume that meant they will be around next season.

I don't know guys...looks like a really good photoshop to me...the GTO text next to the chop-top and the rest of the text is very blurry compared to everything else, also the sponsor stickers (ie tein, greddy, RO_ja) they have on the sides and front bumper and things that wouldn't fit our cars..granted it could be custome, and compare the skyline underneath it...same rims and color. Oh and 1 last thing the drft team doesn't include a gto. heres a link, I dont' read japanese but they have all the drivers they sponsor under drivers and all those guys drive s-13, 350z and rx7s. http://www.drft.co.jp/top.html I call :bs: until someone has proof

Well it is using headlights that the US GTO, coupe4 and VZ CV8 use, basically the newest cars are using. So IF it is real they used a VZ holden CV8 as the base.
It could be a mirror, but why get a LHD car imported into Japan(mainly RHD)
The HSV GTO and VXR use the old style headlights, they are more rounded in the corners and have a ring around the projector (I have a set in my house waiting to be installed.

Worst part is the rear quarter at the door. Anyone notice the lower rear valance is the same piece as that skyline?

I'm not arguing that it isn't a Photochop.. but that lower rear valance isn't even close to the skyline. They are both blue and vented but that is where it ends..
The vent openings are shaped and sized differently. The Skyline's valance is dished the GTO's is flat.. The space betweent the top of the panel and the vent is different.. Not even close.

the issue is april 04... I have it right here... it's actually a s15 chop-top silvia from DRFT... you'll have to try harder than that... and as for all you who do NOT understand how formula d works... They are american owners that just get japanese judges... the judges have no influence over the rules of the competition, they just have to go by them. RHYS WILL BE BACK WITH THE GTO!!!! I have an inside source at RMR who I talk to quite frequently... GM hasn't made up their minds what they want to do... The GTO is NOT illegal to run... For all you drift haters... you better not do another burn out again... wanna be GTO driving... honda having, can't get sideways even if you parked it that way... get a grip people...
