The '05 Autocross option will be offered only on the Red, Black and Silver GTOs. The interior color Black is the only one to be offered with the two new exterior colors, Midnight Blue and Cyclone Grey.

What is the autocross option???

Oh great, do we have yet another person who knows everything about what goes on behind the scenes now?

Are you sure about the Autocross pack being only on the colors you mentioned? Pontiac at one point showed a Barbados Blue (yes I know the color is gone for 05 but I'm just giving an example) Autocross GTO. Pics are on here someplace.

The Autocross package is a new front fascia, new inserts for the nose, new spoiler, new exhaust (split dual like the 05 has standard), and I can't remember what all else.

The Autocross option includes: a different front facia, rear facia, side rocker panels. The Autocross look is shown on the "Barbados Autocross" listed under the "2004 Nationals" thread.

Yes, for '05, Autocross is only available on the three colors. This info I just got from a local dealer. The info he showed me had a release date of yesterday.

The release that was leaked stated the body parts would be offered through dealers for 2004 and 2005 GTOs. It didn't mention anything about them being assembled with them from the factory.

We'll see I guess.

The HSV GTO and GTS use the same body parts, they're just painted differently. The HSV Coupe 4 uses new side skirts, different from the GTO and GTS.

Does anybody know how the Autocross rear fascia is going to be on the 05? It doesn't seem like they can use the same one pictured on the 04..

They're using the same one they showed at SEMA and other shows...however, only available in black, silver, red - here it is:

robcorn
07-31-2004, 12:55 PM
The thing I'm confused about is how they can use the same rear fascia on the 05 that they're using on the 04 SEMA cars when the rear bumpers are so significantly different..

It's not the same rear fascia on the 04 SEMA and the 05 GTO. The 05 GTO rear lower fascia will be gray colored, whereas the 04 SEMA is body-colored. If you look at the rear bumper cut line of your GTO, you will see to how detach/reattach the rear lower fascia, its about a 20 minute job at the tops.

robcorn
07-31-2004, 01:16 PM
Ok, so are you saying that they replace the entire rear bumper, not just add the lower extension with the dual cutouts? I was under the impression that just added the extension..

Yes, the lower rear fascia (and bumper cover) comes off with about 15-20 screws, I've already removed it and reattached it just to make sure because I'm first in line for the Autocross options when they become available through SPO.

So is the autocross kit a new exhaust too? Or is it just the bumper, and for us 04 owners, we're left to fill out the right side cutout? I'm stll not clear on that.

Cat-back dual exhaust with dual tips on each side will be offered with the Autocross package. That will fill your right side cutout :)

Speculation on price. Pulling number out of thin air.. But I dont' think I'm too far off

cat back $450

Bumper/Front clip and skirts will likely only be available as package and will come pre painted. I'm guessing this because of the eariler statment that they would only be availabel on three colors, Red, Black, and Silver. I'm guessing it will be @ $1500 for the kit, plus install.

Any disagreements are welcome. I would love to be able to buy only the front clip and an 05' or PFYC hood.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this yet, but it appears that this kit will not include NEW front and rear facias, it appears to be of a "stick-on" design. You can clearly see the original fasica lines and it looks pretty obvious that it's stuck over it. SPO markets thier new cavalier and sunfrire body kits this way as it negates the need for frontal and rear barrier crash testing as it doesn't disturb the original crash tested fascia.

I don't see any lines. It looks like a new fron clip and rear bumper to me. They are plastic parts. I don't see how it would require recertification of the crash test. The structure underneath doesn't look like it needs to change.

Take a quick glance at the fog lights on the front fascia, you can see the original fascia. You can also see a body line at the rear fasica. This seems to be SPO's MO as of late, I think you'll find its a stick on kit with bolt on rockers.

Anybody have any idea when we can order the Sport Appearance Package (Autocross) for our 2004 GTO's? Since the information is now public, how long until SPO can get part numbers for ordering? Same idea for the 18x8 wheels, too.

That looks like a Grand Am with full body cladding? Have you ever seen a Grand Am before the 04 model year? Sorry to tell you but they had big ribbed pieces of plastic clamped onto the side. The GTO, even in the Autocross kid, doesn't come close to looking like that.

Thanks for the heads up, I actually deal with a dealership in farmington hills, we buy all our magazine project/SEMA vehicles from there. They actually have the '04 on the lot that I ordered before I heard about the '05 and told them I didn't want it lol. Maybe we'll have to meet up after I pick it up!

these are all facias... if you want to see the bumpers on your car etc. rip off your plastic parts. Thats the beauty you can get a verry different looking car by just changing a few plastic parts. Thats how holden manage to upgrade every year or so. They change the bumpers(plastic one) and a bit of the interior. Maybe a small mechanical change aswell. It costs very little to have a very different looking car. Even to make differen't models its cheap i.e. utes etc. they just make the bumpers differen't and do a bit of strucutral modification . limiting the amount of individual pressed pannels they need. to a few rear pannels.

Your actual bumper is behind the plastic and is an ugly metal beam. Hell the next GTO will just be a plastic bumper change. The model remains the same for about 10years but the parts and bits all change. Just think of these cars as a big lego set. Changing the look is like changing the tire. Same goes for the engine. Ford made a drastic model change by australian standards with the last falcon. On the looks side that was bonnet, bot, and quater pannels. along with different plastic parts. Mechanically it was a huge leap aswell. with engine and suspension changes.

Best thing is you have an evolving design and you can spit out many different variants. i.e. HSV models etc. for a relativley small cost. Then next year or so you can make it all look nice and new again.

Great, thanks. I've been calling all over this morning as well without much luck (Dad is a retired GM SPO exec and giving me phone numbers/contacts), and so far it looks like the part numbers won't be released until September at the earliest.

Let me know if you find out anything different, I'll keep hunting as well.

I went to my Pontiac Dealer today, and he shows a "Ground Effects Package" available that includes Front and rear fascia extensions and side mouldings. It is availale in Torrid Red, Black, Silver, and primer.

He didn't have the price on his computer, but he logged into some site called GM Dealer World and told me the cost was $1400. So that was unpainted without the wing and pipes as I understand.

I then called another dealer about it, and he said his computer shows a ground effects package that includes front and rear fascia extensions, side mouldings, AND exhaust conversion. The whole price primered was $2000.

BOTH dealers told me the spoiler was $400 extra and was available seperately.

I'm hoping you can eventually just buy the front fascia extension on its own.

Anyone out there with dealer connections that can confirm any of this stuff?

Also, it seems like "fascia extensions" indicates that for at least the front piece, it goes on OVER the original fascia. When I installed my autocross grilles, I noticed how the bottom intake grille has several places such an extension could anchor itself onto.

Interesting... I'm not suprised they made them snap right into place. I'd expect them to have some sort of screws through the backside at the very least somewhere but probably not on an exposed area. (I'd hope not somewhere that would be nasty looking if you removed them.)

You know, I personaly like the stock 05 rear end better than the 'autocross' rear. Black insert or not... Becides, give it time for the aftermarket to come up with some nifty inserts for that.

You can also get this package primed. The rear fascia is new; the front extension is just that - an extension over the original part. The pricing is $2995 installed. The rear spoiler and front grilles can be purchased separately right now. The exhaust mufflers are new for this package, which is designed to fit a 2005 GTO.

Rob... Hate to rain on your parade but the info I read said that the new autocross package would not be compatible with the 04 GTO which doesn't make a lot of sense because it all looks cosmetic to me. Also, it looks like if you do order the autocross package its an all or none deal. The back end looks fantastic in my opinion but the front end looks too much like a Grand Am. :banghead: :banghead:
