View Full Version : Any info on price yet?
I was just curious if anybody had info on price of the 05? Also, will the LS2 be standard or will it be an optional engine w/ the LS1 standard?

I predict the price will be MSRP of around $34295.00, Maybe even the same as the 04 pricing. The LS2 will the only engine available on the 05 GTO's as standard.

The REAL question I'm wondering is...will the Auto still get slapped with the [completely unnecessary] gas guzzler tax?

Yes, based on the 2005 info the dealers have received.

I looked at the Dealerworld thing again and it still lists the A4 as getting GG'd. I thought the LS2 was supposed to do better for that? Oh, and in that thing on Dealerworld it also said that the scoops are OPTIONAL...I posted about that on the Dealerworld thread.

Yes, based on the 2005 info the dealers have received.THAT, is totally bogus! Mine is stock except for the 4 inch Speed Induction tube to the MAF fitment, removal of the Airbox outlet lip, an added inlet below the filter, and a generic Predator tune to tighten up the 4L60-E HD and I can get 24.8 MPG highway. There is an improvement in the around town mileage component as well chiefly for the changes to the shift mode. I just haven't quantified it yet. If GM just did a little inlet work, they'd get the car over the hump. The Gas Guzzler tax scares a lot of folks who envision much worse mileage than the sticker says in the real world. IMHO, they equate it with the Land Whale SUV numbers in their minds and walk on. :banghead:

Well, ya know what's funny is, my 300M was quoted as 17 city and 28 highway on the sticker...I got 13 city and 22 on the highway ON A GOOD DAY. In the GTO, I'm getting 15 city and 22 on the highway, and I've BEEN GETTING THAT SINCE DAY ONE!
Frustrating...Ah well, even with the tax it was MORE than worth it.

Well, I just came from my local Pontiac dealer and they still dont have official price/option info.....All I was able to find out was that they will call me when they have info and I can order at Supplier. So at least I wont be subject to paying more than sticker in a few months.....I sure hope that darn spoiler is optional......

EPA gas mileage estimates are well behind the times and definitely need revamping. I've read that the test has little highway mileage and speeds are less than 60. I'm sure an expert reading this thread can fill us in on what exactly occurs to concoct these numbers. Few people get the gas mileage the EPA lists on the MSRP Window sticker. I think if you drive around with no traffic near you at 51 MPH you can come close. LOL

Anyone heard approx. when they will announce pricing. Also, is it possible to order vehicle at this point or are we still waiting for pricing before this can happen?? I guess I should contact my sales guy about that one.
Old goat, stanger and others,
Don't know if you remember, but back in the early 80's the EPA changed the way they reported HWY. mileage numbers.
I believe the factor they use is 80% of what their test mileage is.
For example: If they get 30 mpg on their test cycle, which tops out at 50 mph by the way and includes some stop and go driving, then the window sticker will say 24 mpg HWY.
It has been my experience that EVERY GM car I have owned will beat it's EPA HWY mileage on long trips.
My '01 Impala that was rated at 30 mpg HWY would pull down 30 mpg with the cruise at 79 mph.
If i drove 60 mph it would be about 38 mpg!!
38 mpg X 80% = 30.4 mpg
A auto GTO kept below 70 mph should be able to pull down 24 mpg no problem, even though it is rated at 22 mpg.
Keep in mind that these numbers can change. The car might be retested next year and the HWY number on the sticker could be 23 mpg or even 21 mpg.

i wish that were the case for my GTO. seems like my gas mileage is really stinkin. i get about 21-22mpg averaging 70-75mph

Ant updates on the MSRP. I wondering if the insurance on the car will skyrocket since it now has 400hp.

Interesting.....
I owned a low optioned '96 Z28 with an auto and 2.73 rear and averaged 29 miles per gallon on a road trip from Chicago to Philadelphia. The car ran 13.50@104 with a CAI and catback exhaust.
BTW- no info on the 2005 pricing yet.
