It' not fully installed yet... I couldnt get that damn radio out to plug in the antenna so I have to find a way tomorrow.
I think it looks good where it is at and that cubby hole is still functional.

I mounted the antenna on the passanger side because the weather stripping on the top end of the rear window is pretty much impossible to tuck the wires underneath. I kinda like it :)

Congrats. I can't do without my XM. :)
I mounted my antenna on the rear deck, inside between the speakers. Works as well as it does with the exterior-mounted antenna on my truck.
Enjoy. :)

Here's a pic of my Delphi Roady. Not a very elegant install, but convenient and functional (I use the power-cord that broadcasts on an FM channel):

And here's the antenna, which works fine from this location:

I do not believe XM radio has hit Australia yet (I might be wrong). What is it and how does it differ from FM ?

Easy way to get the stereo out of the GTO is to have some guy in a Ford Taurus rear-end you! Radio pops right out, all by itself...

Someone had mentioned putting the antenna on the dash up in front by the winshield, in the middle. Looks like it can go anywhere. Is anyone having trouble with reception?

Isszy: check out www.xmradio.com (http://www.xmradio.com) - basically it's satellite radio that you can receive anywhere (in the US, at least). Absolutely invaluable on a cross-country trip. In addition to commercial-free thematic music channels, it also carries different news, sports, and talk channels. Alas, I don't imagine you'll be getting it in Australia until someone puts up a couple of more satellites.
Zilla: It would probably work on the front dash. On the rear deack I've not noticed any difference in reception between there and my exterior mounted antenna.

Thanks for the pics Padre! Gives me a good ideas about mounting the antenna on the inside. I thougt it had to be on the exteiror for sure. When I had it on My Grand Prix I mounted the antenna on the outside like this one, but I didnt look at the location of where I mounted the antenna. What would happen was whenever I opened the sunroof it would go over the antenna, and cut out reception alittle bit. So I was worried that the antenna had to be in the free and open. I am happy to see there can be good reception from the inside. It looks better there I there.
GTOinNC- Ill just go to the dealer ;) but that is interesting though.. it is such a pita yet will pop out when rearended.

I finally bought one, but the FM modulator needed to be hooked into the antannea on the back of the radio, so I said forget that. I thought it was going to be like the old CD changers that let out a low frequency radio signal. So I just run it in my truck now, since I can use the cassette adaptor. The antannea for the satillite works fine on the dash there, and I found out that it also works fine inside my Dad's garage.
Padre, where can I get a power cord that broadcasts on a FM frequency? or is that just for the roadie? Mine is a delphi unit (I forget the model and do not have it with me now).
Thanks.

LOL, it does :)
I found this out today... so I went to Best Buy where a awesome empliyee there helped me get the radio out. It took him about 5 seconds after sticking in four tiped screw driver like pics in the holes, and for one of them he even used a allen wrench! Anyways..... come to find out you do not have to remove the radio to get in where the antenna plugs in!
You can get to it from the rear.... hell when you pull out the radio it is completely dissconnected! All the wires plug in from the rear and the radio its self plugs in to set adapters in back. I know I am doing a bad job explaining... Ill take some pictures next time I yank it out.
Come to find out though the antenna connector for our radio's is different than what is usually used... it is a much smaller plug and I needed to get a adapter.... once again the guy at Best Buy was extremely helpfull. I wanted to throw the guy a 20 but he refused. I will though send in a nice letter to his corporate though.
It works great, but in the manual it doesn't show what frequency to tune into to get the Xm to work... but just by hitting it scan it found it right away. I think 87.6 or something like that.
Kudos to Best Buy for their helpfull service, I didnt even buy the unit from them but i will definetly consdier them next time.

Blitzu - how did you route the cable for your XM antenna?
I am trying to figure out how I can run the antenna for my ham radio but I can't figure out how to get it outside the car.

I put the same unit in my car. The installer put the antenna on the dash, up by the windshield. That really worked out well and the reception is as good as on the roof, but no worry of it scratching the paint. I only wish the display could change colors like the roadie. Unfortunately, since I did the headers and exhaust I'm having a problem...it's hard to turn the radio on because I can't hear the exhaust over the music!

Putting the antenna on the dash works great for something that is only a receiver. However, what I am trying to do is install a transmitter as I am an amateur radio operator (ham). Hence I need to figure out how he routed it. :)

If you are asking about how I got the antenna on the outside I mounted the antenna actually in the front of the car now.... I pulled it from the back because I was testing areas inside to see how it was.
Anyways for the rear of the car I ran it from where the antenna was mounted down along the rear window to the trunk. From the inside of the trunk I pulled the weather stripping up and ran the wire under it so it wouldnt look messy. After the wire was in the trunk i decided to run it through the area where the rear light is inside of the car. I popped up that plastic panel and there are holes that you could slide the wire through.
I almost forgot I also removed that back panel inside of the trunk that is attached to that big black metal brace that protects the gas tank. I also removed that awhile ago.
Back to the wire... after I got it inside I just ran it under the carpet close the rear windo to the passanger side of the rear seat. You can then see areas where you can tuck the wire down.
The easier way of doing it is mounting it where I have it now on the roof near the passanger side front.... from there I ran the wire again under the stripping on the side of the front window and then tucked it in the fender to where you can then see it from the passanger side door. Next just run it under the stripping again and then you are right near the glove box.
Hopefully these really bad descriptions will help you.... I appologize I am in a rush to leave the house. If you want I can post pictures later.

That was a scientific experiment of mine: what would happen if you opened a coke can after going 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. My hypothesis: :bomb:
I was correct. :)

Thanks Blitzu! I understand how to do it now. 3 questions - does the rear HMSL just pop up? Will it go back in with the wire run underneath it (it's not a thick wire)? And finally, does that aesthetic pretty panel in teh trunk come off just by the little black jobbies that it has all over it (like the radiator shroud?) or does it have other stuff holding it on too? Thanks!

Yeah I actually have directions for it.... ummm here>>
Instructions (http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571 6)
Yes, that black fabric material comes off by popping the "little black jobbies".... lol. After those are off it just pulls out freely and you can see that big black brace that protects the gas tank.
Tell me if you need anything else ;)
