i was just wondering if anybody had unusual tire wear on just the inside of the rear tires.

yes, i did too. at. about 10,000 miles the inside of the tires were bald but the outsides still had a little life left. I read on here that it is normal and it is because of aggresive driving. I guess those damn rear tires accidentally spinning all the time does not help either huh.

same here, i believe it has something to do with the suspension setup... like when you jack up the tire and the tire wants to curl under the car like the dolorean getting ready to fly.... there is just more camber (toe? always get em confused) on the inside of the tire.

If you are getting uneven tire wear, it is not normal. Sounds like you need to take that car to an alignment shop or back to the dealer to get that straightened out.

normal, the suspension setup is odd causing the inside tire wear. you maybe able to get a camber kit for the rear to fix it though.

Let me get this straight. Youre saying that a car with 9k miles that both of his rear tires are worn to the point of an almost blowout is normal?? Another guy posted this same problem w pics. Thats like saying my rear end noise is normal. Not gonna buy it. NO car should wear out rear tires that way. Now if your burning them on a regular basis, thats one thing. I have 9k on mine and have rotated them twice and the tires are perfect, and let me tell you I drive the hell out of it.

There is no stock rear camber adjustment, the only way to aid this is with an eccentric bushing kit to get your desired camber. GM tolerance is -1.7 to .3 degrees. If your rear is within spec they will not warranty your tires. I will say that it is not "unusual." Many performance cars run some fairly aggressive camber on the streets which will always cause inner tire wear. It is a tradeoff and all dependant on your wants and needs.

I can agree with that. I would definitely not call it "normal" wear. Who wants to spend 500 bucks every 10K miles for 2 tires because of a normal condition like that? Not me. And if that truly was the case, I would be trading it in for a straight axle car. But like I said, 9K and the tire wear is fine, even with my TC off at all times.

On agressive launches the rear squats and causes the rear tires to tilt in,reducing the contact patch of the tire.I have pictures of my car at the dragstrip launching and you can see that the inside of the rear tires are getting more wear than the outside. I never would of guessed it if I didnt see the picture, But if its wearing out without aggressive launches and burnouts, than thats another story and should be looked into.

As was posted before, there is no factory rear adjustments for our cars. You do have to get an aftermarket rear camber ajustment set in order to change that. The only ways to change this habit are:
1) Get the camber adjustment set. Have a quality shop install them & have it aligned with more positive camber.
2) Alter the rear suspension by stiffening. Either stiffer springs (there are some that are stock height), stiffer sway bars (actually are anti-sway bars), or (like me) get Koni adjustable rear shocks.

I had the same problem, but I wasn't worried about it because I planned to stiffen the rear suspension.

I am the one who posted the thread about this issue with pics. After two dealerships and a service manager that couldn't get her head out of her ass, I ended up going to Costco and buying new tires. Both dealerships say it is my fault. Neither dealership acctually checked the alignment and the dealership I bought the car from tried to tell me I had aftermarket wheels and tires (I have the optional 18s), alignments aren't warrantied (I only had 6,800 miles on my car and the warranty covers up to 7500 miles) and that an alignment can't be done on a rear end. Retards. Anyway, I know some of it can be attributed to the camber but these cases seem extreme. I think all we can do for now is document the problems and take pics. I filed a complaint with the dealership, GM and BBB. No reply from any of them and honestly I don't have enough time to sit on hold and talk to a thousand different people who have no authority and could care less.

Chase... you're not the only one. Here's a link to the thread I posted about this very problem. THREE different dealerships and told nothing they could do. Grrrrr :madsign3: The last dealership even sent me away to drive 45 minutes to home on the tires I have pictured in this thread. At the very least, you'd think they'd have made me sign a waiver acknowledging what kind of condition the one rear tire was in...

Yeah I brought up the safety point and they shrugged their shoulders. Less than two blocks away from the dealership I bought it from the right rear tire blew. Luckily I was only going about 10 mph and Costco was right there. I had it towed to another dealership via pontiac roadside and they said nope and put the spare on for me. Took it back to Costco and bought the tires. I remember your thread, I posted on it a couple of times.

i went through some nittos on the rear in under 2500 miles. thats with only 5 drag strip passes and only a couple of small burnouts.

Search tip:

Yes, we have over a million posts in the data base. There is still only one Pontiac dealer here who earns our respect day after day. The user id is "dms."

Instead of just 'searching', click advanced on questions like these. Put 'rear wear' in this case as your search terms, and then 'dms' over in user name to filter your results some. This information has been available for several months:

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5012 0&highlight=rear+wear

BTW, for electronics/audio check user 12voltking. For anything mechanical or administrative check what CMNT.... had to say. For fabricated custom pieces watch for CSIJason, Galen, Striped04, GMInTheDriveway and Bone for starters.

I recently got 305 hits on 'extended warranty', but the 'good five' all had posts by CMNT(its a long one) in them.

PPS: The factory manual is published by Helm's. If you want to read 'gray market' transcriptions that are at least footnoted, include "Helm's" in your search terms.

i had no problem getting a free set of reasr tires from the dealer. u have to go to a tire place that is a dealer for goodrich. have them look at the camber of the back wheels. if they say thats y they wore out on the inside get it in writing and bring it to the dealer and show them that. also tell them that u want to talk to the regional service manger. like i said i had no problems.

Can I ask how many miles you got out of your original rear tires?

And at what mileage you rear sway bar was installed, roughly?

Just curious.

If you're asking me, I got about 6800 miles out of the stock 18" Bridgestones. I installed the rear way at about 7300.
