Hey,
I'm likely going to pick up the Escort 8500 X50 in a couple weeks. Did my hunting, and get the distinct impression that Escort has told its dealers they cannot discount it at all, everyone is $299 for the red. Is there someone else I should be looking?
Also, on eBay there are a number of folks selling new, in the box, units, for closer to $250. BUT, they say you don't get the warranty with it, and that the reason is that Escort has told them that if they underprice the unit, they won't honor the warranty. Do I really need that warranty? How long is it for? How much trouble do these units tend to have?
Without additional knowledge, my first reaction is to purchase an eBay unit and skip the warranty, and if it breaks I'll chalk it up to lesson learned and not buy another.
Comments?

Usually the ones on E-Bay are either stolen or used.

i had been using a cheap $50 whistler for about 3 or 4 years. until it got stolen. didn't have a single problem with it.
so i went out bought another one just like it. been using it for about 3 years. no problems yet.
radar detectors seem to be pretty bullet proof. unless you happen to get a factory defected one.
