Anyone know what the new GTO rear-end is/hp rating??? What about the 04? I've been told a read that the old rear was rated to hold only 400hp, meaning that the new GTO will have to be changed. :sneaky:

Don't know. I just hope they don't cut any corners. I hope we get the upgraded A4, and whatever other appropriate drivetrain parts are needed for the LS2.

The 04 GTO can hold over 400hp in the rear. There are cars on here with more than
that and have the original rearend.

On the 04 the order of drive train breaking is supposedly drive shaft, half shaft and then rear end. Probably not going to be a problem.

What upgraded A4? It's going to be the same transmission...Both PadreGTO and BMR Fab's GTO are making over 500hp @ the crank and both have the stock A4 transmission. I wouldn't be too concerned about it's longevity.

LS1Speed does make some beefed up A4s though and that might be something to consider down the road (I am but I have bills to pay and other performance mods to make before I worry about a sturdier transmission).

i believe it was nikivee who posted that the 05 Corvette will get a beefed up A4. the GTO will not. i dunno why though

What upgraded A4?

The 4L65-E the C6 Corvette is getting. Some info on it here...

Makes me wonder what rpm the '05 A4 GTO is going to upshift at. Might be kinda lame if the max shift speed is 5600 rpm when the engine redlines at 6500.

It could be the old transmission but it has been recalibrated as it has in the new VZ commodores. Go to Carsales.com.au to read reviews about the new (old really) A4.

I don't know about an upgraded A4, but there is a supposed "launch" feature associated with the A4 that preloads the transmission for a harder launch. :wall:

This supposed launch feature is pure marketing bull**** imo. Take my 67 or 72 as an example. If I foot brake the car and bring up my revs a little, with the solid axle the car(s) will raise the the rear end a little. IRS suspension tend to squat instead of raise up.. My 04 M6 GTO will also squat if I put the parking braking on and bring out the clutch. Does that mean I have a special launch mode with my M6? Just pure marketing BS. No "special" launch mode in my opinion.

I do like to play with it at the trafiic light. Go to neutral and then to drive and feel the rear end lower. Kind of a minature low riding thing.

For a close up view of the "squat", click on the "On the dyno" vid in my sig.

Two things though: first, preloading does no good without traction. I can't preload and launch without going sideways on my street tires. Second, ideally, you want all the power going horizontally. "Squatting" and/or lifting the front wheels (as in nikivee's vid) may look cool, but isn't optimal for best times.

I actually plan on getting some stiffer springs to reduce it.

I couldnt' imagine anything that could preload the transmission for a hard launch, maybe not allowing converter lock up and boosting mainline pressure.

That's funny you mention launch mode. I saw on speed last night that the new
M5 out next year will make over 500 hp with a V10, and one of the features mentioned was a specail launch mode.

I bet that means there is a setting that changes the setup of the rear, like adjustable shocks and other parts. I fugure for 76K or more it should let you almost set everything up. I can see it now, brand new M5 owners at the track and getting crappy times because they are trying to set the new launch feature, but can't get to it with the I-Drive system.

You are correct about the sqaut. I have my 67 so that when I launch the body actually lifts so as to plant the rear. My car does not sqaut in the rear. It's called anti-squat. Notice the picture of my 67 during a launch.

Now compare that with when the car is standing still.

You really don't want the rear to squat on launch. You want the rear to lift on the launch. Lifting loads the rear and plants the tires. Its looks bass akwards, but that is how the good cars are setup.

Pay no attention to my avatar :eek2:

Ayep. Can I have it, nikivee? :)

Never hurts to ask, I suppose (seriously, on my trip to El Paso, stopped at a rest stop and a group of high school kids in a bus unloaded next to me, and one girl asks, "can I have your car?" :gr_jest: ).

So what is the scoop on your 67??? How much hp are you pulling and what setup do you have??? :eek2:

There was (probably still is) a trick mode like this on the M3 where you would rev to like 2K and shift (only on the SMG models) to take off like a bat out of hell, but you could only do it a few times before you'd need a new transmission so it wasn't very loudly publicized.

Apparently it's called Launch Control...Found that on Google...maybe it's just urban legend about the whole burning it out after a couple of tries thing tho.
