Nice artwork, but we'll never see it... Love the comments from all the haters on the current design, was a funny read though....

Nice, but would never be built.
If the GTO were incorporate more retro cues, I believe it would take cues from the 68 thru 72 models. Those were the ones that were more aerodynamic than the 66-67 models. Though the 66-67 models are my favorite years.

It looks like a Mexi-mobile
Especially the convertible. That thing looks like it is on hydraulics.

I agree. The later cars would translate better to modern design, even though the stacked headlights are probably more what people think of as a "GTO look".

A big surprise - a retro GTO proposal, like we don't have enough retro cars coming already. No thanks. I already lived through the '66-67 time period.
Could we have something a bit more creative, please?

I don't like it. Too boxy.
IMO: Like it or not, retro is here to stay.....for a while.

^^^^Yeah just what I want an un-aeroDynamic brick that rehashes a design from grandpa land (No offense to the older gentlemen) What we need is a new design not something that looks like it ran into a brick wall. Just my 2 cents.

It may be from grandpa land, but it still is one of the most gorgeous cars designed by GM ever.

Yes, I loved the '66-67 GTOs too, but lets leave that design in the history books and come up with something even better.

Too retro. They should take the current GTO design and add to it .... not start from the original and try to morph it into to a modern version.

I absolutely love the look of the 66-67's. It’s one of the classiest looks for a muscle car ever IMO. That being said it should stay in 66-67. The stacked headlamps look so wrong on a modern car. You don't see Caddy putting tail fins on their cars now-a-days.

Waitaminute. Anyone else think it's absolutely rediculous to not only have a retro design of a goat, but to copy the looks of a car that was essentially a boring family sedan, atleast visually? Yes, the GTO is awesome, but it was nothing more than a Tempest with a big engine and hood scoops. The original looks great, don't get me wrong. But, I think it's ludicrous and hideous to be modernizing a car that was essentially a grocery getting family sedan. What's next? Thirty years down the road Pontiac makes a retro inspired 1998 GTP? Or Ford makes a 2020 Ford Taurus SHO that looks like a modernized 2nd gen. Taurus? Sorry, but that GTO rendering is painful to look at. It's perhaps the most garish, silly, awkward, and confusing design I've seen in recent memory.

If they do go for some retro clues, let's hope it's from the 67. The latter GTO's looked like clowns up front. hehehe.......

Nikivee, I don't know what your sources are telling you, but I'm hearing the new Camaro is definitely a go to be followed by a re-platformed GTO in 09. The GTO will be moved slightly upmarket to take on the BMWs directly. Pretty reliable from past indications, too. Australia is becoming Camaro Birthland as we speak.

^^So, you're saying the next generation GTOs will see an increase in price to about 35-40K??
Or just maintain a solid, refined interior?

Well under $40K. $35K is a threshold number. Don't want to stray too far above that to maintain any sales #'s.

IMO anything near, or over $30k is not going to be a mass seller.

I have to agree to disagree I think its a wonderful idea having it around 35k-40k with better interior and options than the camaro.

It makes no business sense or logic for GM to have two nearly identical models aimed at an identical market. The GTO can serve GM much better as a more sophisticated performance vehicle with the Camaro ensconced in the $20-$30K range. They wouldn't even need big sales #'s to impact the BMW, LEXUS and INFINITIS of the world. Having a Pontiac play in that world makes all the sense to the brand, the marketplace and GM's NewWorld Strategy. In 5 years, Bob Lutz will be seen as either a Visionary or Asylum Keeper......

They go that high and most of the current owners will not buy one, that
wouldnt be a smart move.

With the price of a GT mustang around 25-28k, the Camaro more than likely be aimed at that market. Of course the Camaro will come with standard V-6 and cloth seats. Probably never see those options in a GTO. I read engine options will be either the new 3900 or the 3.6 twin cam motor, and a 300hp 5.3 for the Z28, and 400hp LS2 for the SS. If they want it to sell, they need to get it under the price of the Mustang. Mustangs have always been cheaper by 2-3k, thats why Camaros always had low sales numbers.

The data says that sales problems for Camaro/Firebird were more in the area of practicality, not price. Many owners (read: women) never felt comfortable "sitting in a hole" and looking out over the long hoods. Mustang packaging was always less compromised for style.

Man is that the truth. Wife both loved AND hated the 96 Camaro SS as getting in and out of it in a ladylike manner was impossible...(though I certainly gleaned some amusement from it.) Sitting in the Mustang was like being on top of a throne. Not to my liking but women loved it MUCH more than the Camaro.

I don't know how the chair height is set up in the Camaro concept vehicle, but I hope GM doesn't make the same packaging mistakes all over again (i.e., compromise the seating for the "look"). Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.....
