I was reading a new car mag, and it confirmed that the new GTo auto was a 4L65-E, and that number sounded familar, so I looked for the last issue on the new vette, sure enough same 4L65-E. So is the GTO auto just a beefed up 4L60 or does it have all the fancy algorithium shizznit that the auto vette has? That being said, if it doesnt what would it take to add all that new stuff?

It's the 4L60-E, still beefed up with 4L65 internals...

There is a lot of wrong information on that site. It still says 340HP.

so do I believe the flawed site, or the new car magazine?

I would believe miscreant as s/he (not sure, sorry) has good inside GM information, such as the MPH light fix bulletin (totally looking forward to that by the way).

Then perhaps he also knows if they gave it a higher stall torque converter, still wondering after the post that said the auto was faster than the manual.

There really seems to be a lot of conflicting info through GM. There also seems to be a lot of mistakes in the ordering guides.
According to the 2005 GTO press release, it still gets the 4L60 same as the 2004:
http://media.gm.com/division/2005_prodinfo/pontiac/ gto/index.html
But, the new VZ Monaro is getting the the 4L65: http://www.media.holden.com.au/division/holden/pro ducts/passenger/large/monaro/product.html
The C6 Corvette gets the 4L65 too:
http://media.gm.com/division/2005_prodinfo/chevrol et/cars/corvette/index.html
It's seems to make more sense that the 2005 GTO would get the 4L65 with the LS2, especially since the Monaro is getting it (even though it still has the LS1). Guess we'll have to wait and see.

The 2005 SSR also gets the 4L65 with the changeover to the LS2:

Here's some info I found too. It doesn't explicitly say GTO, but it sort of implicitly excludes 4L60 (based on engine torque specs.)

GM is on a global kick so they are probably importing the engines and trannys. I bet it is the same as the SSR, w/o some of the vette features.
