And I'm glad I've been waiting.....mostly just because I've been being cheap lately. :gr_jest: I happened to be online last night right after Mathew posted this, so I finally decided to grab one while the gettin's good. Now, I CAN'T wait for it to get here. How ironic is that? Been waiting a while..now I don't want to. :eek2:

COUPE4 -

Is this for the race version, street version, or either of our choosing?

My understanding of the differences from investigating other threads is as follows:

Race = zero or less rubber parts? Includes a fixed handle that accepts the stock knob and boot

Street = some or more rubber parts? Does not include a handle, you use the stock handle, knob, and boot. You can also use a different/shorter handle that may or may not use the stock knob and boot.

Could you clarify the differences and which versions are part of the buy?

Thanks..............

Hey Wildwildwest

The GP special is for the JHP option 4 (GMM Rip) "race" style shifter only, which is the most commonly used '04-'06 GTO sports shifter in the USA.

Both the "race" & the "street" JHP shifters retain the stock Pontiac GTO gear knob & boot.

The "race" style shifter uses a fixed/solid gear shaft handle and retains the stock gear knob.
The "street" style shifter uses a 2 peice gear shaft, one of which is the stock GTO rubber insulator top shaft to reduce vibrations transmitted thru the shaft. You can swap out this top shaft at any time for a shorter (JHP option 1) handle, if you like your gear knob to be lower than stock height. The "street" style also retains the stock gear knob & boot.

I'll have to start waiting around the house. If it's DHL they will drive by your house and forget to drop off the box and then claim no one was home.

For a rookie (yet learning very well) manual driver, what kind of changes can I expect with this shifter?

Also, maybe i'm not understanding, but this ripshifter isn't a "short shift kit" right? Just a different stick assembly? Please specify? Thanks!

I don't have mine in yet, but from what I understand it feels dramatically different. Shorter throws and a solid feel for each gear is why I decided to get one. I was missing 3rd at the drag strip a lot and with this shifter finding the right gear and getting there fast should help out.

"one of the best mods under $500"

JHP have 2 styles of GMM Rip shifters (JHP option 4 sports shifter).
"Race" $309 shipped suit track work some extra shifter vibrations because of the solid shifter shaft.
"Street" $335 shipped, suit daily driver / track work, IMO the best option and will not disappoint.:gears: :gears:
