Just wondering if anyone has installed a set of these tires on their Goat? If so, how are they? Here is a link. Any help would be appreciated. If they aren't that good, any suggestions on what to go with when I have to replace the BF's. TIA

I am going to wait for the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 that are on backorder at Tirerack, in the 275/40YR17 (for rears). Those seem to be the GYs that are the most popular with our cars.
I don't know about the other F1s, -Supercar... the reviews didn't seem as good . For the price I don't want to roll the dice.

One of the best drivers tire I have ever put on a car. Fantastic wet or dry. Better ride and road noise then the BFGs. A lttle geasey when very cold, cold. Once they warm up...they are fine...even in 20 degree weather. Anything more then an inch of snow...you may as well be on ice:(. They do run a little wider then BFGs and look great on the car. If you go for the tires...get the car aligned. Strut tower wear has to be checked. I had a dime size rub mark before...now with "wider" tires I have no problems.

Thx Duck....You mind me asking how much you paid for the tires mounted and balanced? Did you order them or get them from a local Goodyear store? I will have it aligned also, since it has never been done. Thx.

If you shop around....you can get them mounted and balanced for less or the same money as Tire Rack. I got 17s mounted and balanced for less then $800.....you would be amazed what a local tire guy can do...when he wants to

Ok...thx dude. I have one more question. When I had my car serviced at around 6,000 miles I had them balance the tires and rotate also. I noticed that our wheels don't have any weights on the outer visible portion of the rim. How do they get them to balance right by doing this?......and if I take it to a local shop, will they KNOW not to put weights on the outside? Sorry if I am ignorant in this respect, but I have always seen weights on the outer portion of the wheel. Just dont want the wheels scratched if it isn't necessary.

Do not go to a Goodyear only dealer. They will charge you LIST for the tire. Go to an "independent" good year dealer. I got stuck upsate NY....when 16" tires where "exotic". I had a Good year only dealer beat me with a hammer. He cherges me $225 for a tire I could buy on the island for $90.

You have to tell them you want tape on weights. it costs about $5.00 more for them, but no one should be hammering on an aluminum rim. YOU have to tell them....otherwise they will put on clip ons

Oh Hell No!!!!....no hammering on my wheels!!!....lol. So do they have to put them on the outside? I have none on my BFG's now, and they have been rebalanced by a Pontiac service center.

Wrong!!!! On the Tirerack site find a local Goodyear tire store that is listed as recommended installer...then go to that store with a copy of the Tirerack webpage/price and they will give you the Tirerack price (adjusting shipping charges for sale tax). ...you can also then open a goodyear charge and finace them for 6 months at 0% interest.

Yep....got plenty of pics. We went to Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center the first day. Second and third day we were at Disneyworld. The fourth day we went to Universal Studios in Orlando. It was a good time. Yeah..we took the Goat. The ride was awesome. All kinds of jokers trying to mess with me.....lol. But the Goat was having none of that crap!!! Had several people come up to me and ask me about the car. A few guys in their 20's on the strip in Cocoa Beach when we were leaving yelled "Light em up".....lol...but I didn't. Didn't need a ticket. Right outside Orlando at a gas station we stopped at there were a few guys from Canada that stopped me and asked me about the Goat. They were disappointed that they couldn't get them up there. I said, "Well, hopefully you will be able to soon".....NOT!!.....lol.

...and here's what's up with that. I used to automate tire factories, specifically the uniformity testing equipment. Each auto company and retail outlet defines the quality specs for which they will accept tires to sell. Sam's Club/Walmart had the lowest quality specs of all the tire sellers...the only things that were rated worse and not destroyed were the ones marked not for US market. So a tire bought with the car or another high quality retailer will ride better then the same tire from some bargain basement discounter. So my point is, buying a Goodyear tire from a Goodyear store will be a better tire then one bought at Walmart. It may not matter on some old Ford but on a GTO the quality difference will be noticed.

This guys is right on the money. I bought my set of F1 G3D3's from TireRack because none of the local Goodyear stores had them in stock.........bad idea as two of the TireRack tires had to be taken off and shipped back due to out-of-round issues. Totally sucks to go have them re-mounted, balanced, etc. and then screw with TireRack to get reimbursed.........what about my time? Buy your tires locally if at all possible. My next set will prolly be the new Coopers. They look virtually identical to the F1's and are a third less in price.
Best of all, I used to sell 'em and know the brand well AND they're in stock locally.

I agree. Taking the printout to a "recommended Installer" and with a little discussion they matched the price is how I bought my F1's . I told them I wanted tape on weights (no charge) and a road force balance $16 each wheel additional . A road force balance provides a better balance (they provide a printout of the roundness of each tire)- eliminates the hassle of getting an out of round tire . Local purchase also provides free lifetime balance and rotations. Also remember to purchase the road hazard in the total deal. I needed the rain handling so I went with GS-D3's and would recommend them. TireRack provides great prices and service- bought many sets over the years , just try a local dealer (they know TireRack is a direct competitor) and any drawbacks of delivery are minimized...

Did I read that right ? J.E.T. concerned about price - I thought you had endless finances when it came to your Goat...;) But I understand that when your maggie goes on - tires will be a regular maint. item...:gears:

The local shop I used for the mount and balance used the Hunter Road Force balancer but didn't catch the out-of-round issue which I let them know about, believe me. Place was Action-Gator Tire. I use another shop in Leesburg for brake, alignment and REAL balance work. They do the on-the-car laser balance and it was them who found the bad tires for me.

The only experience I've had with them was for one of my customers. A few years ago, he brought in a set of F1 Supercar tires for a set of C5 Z06 replica rims. He was gonna put them on his C5 convertible. We could visably see more than 1 of the tires was out of round. He ended up buying some Michelins from us.
Moral of the story is: If the price between the F1 SC & the F1 GS-D3 is close, go with the GS-D3. I've heard nothing but good remarks on it. Another good tip is to use the Tire Rack links like GTO1_Ohio said & buy from a local store. At least if there is a problem with the tires, you have someone to talk to directly about the problem. Over the phone is so difficult.

Dude....Thx for the advice. But I have to ask you......Where did you get those wheels? They look damn good!!. Can you give me some info as to the brand/model/size and where you got them? Also, what tire sizes are you using? I would like a set for mine maybe.

Yep.........tires are gonna take a beating I'm afraid, and in the very near future too. I dunno about "endless finances", but as they say in the movies "I've spared no expense". Next to cigars this car has been my only vice (lately). Got just about $50k in it now and will have a few more $$$ invested before it's over. Since they won't be making any more of these fine automobiles I'm looking at it as my "401k GTO plan"  Hey, you only go around once........
