OMG, on base today I saw a Caprice with 27" rims, lol. The funniest thing was that he had vinyl lettering on all his windows to say:
Don't Ask
27"
LOL! The car had to of been sitting a good 2 or so feet above the ground.

We have a couple cars running around her on 26's. One is purple with a pink top, it has a large 26" on the rear quarter panel. One of the mechanics at the trans shop I use modifies the suspension on the side for them to run these big a@# wheels.

Yeah, I was bitching to the passenger about the fact I didn't have a camera, I know you guys would love to see that! I should probably consider purchasing a cheap digital camera for the glove box just for occasions such as these; plus it would be helpful if needed in an accident or whatever.

Uhh, so, I can expect to see more cars like these down in FL? I'll be down there for 6 weeks starting next week.

If it's made it here to Sumter, you can bet it will be in FL. I wonder how many children are eating Mac and Cheese until those rims are paid for? :wall:

Well, I'd have to say, they don't need no floor jack or lift if they need to do any engine/tranny/diff work lol.

For a few enthusiasts its not about looking great, its about doing something that hasn't been done or said couldn't be done. I think it looks retarded but I give em' props for putting in the effort to look like a retard.

Those rigs are all over the road in Miami. They look like the wagon wheels from Prairie Schooners. Big giant rims with teeny-weeny brakes. My local tire shop says they remove the inner wheel wells and beat anything in the way with the sledge. Then jack the car up with spacers till they fit.
There is a place that RENTS tires and 20"++wheels. $4000 in tires/rims on a $500 impala.:gr_jest:
Most of the drivers are drug salesmen. Silver capped teeth and athletic jerseys. Deafening thumper "music" rattling with distorsion. They are hilarious actually. Enough to make my dog laugh.

Tampa too!!
Started seeing this a couple years ago.
Now every "gotta have it" dealer/thug/pimp/black/idiot has to have em.
Saw a 95 LT1 Impala ruined in candy apple green with purple spray over accents with 26s.
Damned thing had as much ground clearance as my Jeep!!
Remember the noise guns the cruise ships used to run off those pirates last year? I want one to point at the bass thumpers ruining nice Impalas.
Rent 'n Roll is a hugely profitable biz. The idea of rip off weekly payment stereo/furniture shops selling rims to idiots collecting earned income credits is brilliant.
Gotta love Florida.....

seen a gold with white top like that here over the summer. sad thing was The car looked like it had the $200 paint job from one of those low cost places and the white vinyl top look to be original as it was all dirty and stained...
did have some 26" chrome wheels though...

I see that all day long driving around near some of our stores here in Jax. Some go even farther and add the DODGE, and NEWPORT and BUDWEISER decals dressing them up like race cars. Quite the spectical. I don't even find it humorous enough to laugh at.

the funny thing about them 27's is that the tire reads 22 if you get close to one look for the tire size it will say 305/30/22 lol

What i have been told is that a 27" rim uses a 26" tire because the lip of the rim goes over the outside of the tire. I dont know how true it is because it isn't something that interests me. :eek2:

I wonder how long this fad will continue -of increasingly large wheel sizes out of scale to the rest of the vehicle?
Who remembers the previous ghetto car fads?
1970s- Landau bars (S-shaped things on the side of the roof)
-zodiac stickers with a diff sex act for each month (usually w/chair)
-continental kits (fake spare tire on trunk or fr fender)
-big padded half vinyl tops and tiny limo window
1980s-fake wire wheels and large stick on white walls
- giant windshield wipers with cooling fins and multiple blades(in green)
- big chrome bands over entire rocker panel with nickname in big letters
1990s-12 or 13 inch rims on full size cars(exact opposite of current fad)
-neon bulbs on the underside of car
-fake convertible top complete with crossbar lumps
- hydraulics (cars rolling down road on three wheels with one up and a trail of parts falling off from multiple impacts)
2000 up-lots of monitors on headrests, floorboards, plasma in trunk(why trunk?)
-110v house sound system in the car w/ voltage inverter (with plenty of distortion)
A walk (or drive) down memory lane in a ridiculous direction.

Should add a few more:
-chrome inserts on wheel wells
-those chrome metal curb feelers on lowriders
-removing one wiper and moving the other halway up the windshield
-those stupid neon decals from the 80's you could buy at pepboys
-the limosine arrow
-rainbow colored tint
-wheels that stick out a foot from the wheel well
