i saw a pic of the new 04 grand prix gtp. i thought it looked VERY NICE on the outside. i almost think that what the new GTO should look like with the dual exausts and all. but on the inside, one thing that i dont like is the pontiac airconditioner vents. they are rounded and im pretty sure all of their cars have the rounded vents. the new GTO has square looking vents which i find way better looking. i like the steering wheel on the GTP A LOT maybe a little more than the GTO's. what do you all think?

Yes, Pontiac for years has used the round "ball/socket" style vents, the new GTP included. The Trans Am, Grand Am, etc all have had them.

Remember, the interior on the GTO isn't a Pontiac styled unit. It's a Holden styled interior.

thats exactly why i like it more. the styling and everything about it seems more pleasing to the eye than say a 04 gtp. i hope they dont go back to rounded airvents when they decide to build it from scratch... holden makes one damn good looking car.

I think the lines of the interior flow better too with squared or rectangular vents. I think it was all part of Pontiac's "sporty" theme.

But there is one thing I'm jealous of the Trans Am guys with their round center vents. The perfect place to put gauges. :(

I agree the 04 GTP vents look terrible. The circular vents in the Solstice look much better. The GTOs vents look very good.

Good looking circular vents.

The flush ones are nice.

Dare I say kudos to Nissan for doing this, albeit on a rectangular vent. The previous generation Maxima had those style that when closed, closed flush.

The 97-03 GPs have the best looking vents if you ask me. Nice sleek looking oval type vents. I dont have a pic but maybe someone can bring one up. Also the 97-03 GPs are the better looking car of all that are mentioned IMO, except the TA. :p

I had a Silvermist GTP for a couple of years, and it's head and shoulders above the current generation GTP in all categories, IMO.

But better looking than the GTO?

Naaah. :)

I totally disagree... very cheap looking plasticy look. I hated my interior on the Grand Prix. Seats were uncomfortable, all the buttons seemed "pop on quatlity", steering wheel felt cheap, the dash plastic it's self was extremely crappy looking. I have seem some nice after market work, but the stock interior made me always feel like I got cheated. I had two accords, a 97 and a 2002 while I had my 2000 Grand Prix and I always loved going to sit in those interiors... so much more classy and just felt nicer... much better seats. This GTO puts any GM interior to shame that I have ever been in. Much better than any Caddy I have been in also, and i always thought the Caddy's had the best GM interior. The next closest thing to the GTO's interior I have seen is my friends new BMW 3 series.

... see what I mean about being cheap???

No comparison>>>>

Exterior well, that is in the eye of the beholder and the reason I really feell in love with the GTO is IT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE 97-03 GRAND PRIX FROM THE FRONT! LOL, I get such a kick out of the people that say different....

Look for yourself-

Minus the ram air hood they are identical practically.

The only real difference on the exterior is the rear and I have to admit in person thos GTO looks really slick from the rear. I don't miss the cheap looking wavy rear lights on the Grand Prix. I also felt as if the ass end of my grand prix stood out too much...

"Minus the ram air hood they are identical practically." You are kidding right?
The only similarity is the front grills. Differences: Headlights, body lines, side view mirrors, taillights, front and rear bumpers, spolier.

There is a very solid family resemblence. Just like the old GTO's looked exactly like the tempest's, lemans' and grand prix's of the time.

Pontiac has ALWAYS kept a very strong family resemblence using the nose of the car. The firebird (being based off of a chevy platform since day 1) has been the notable exception. I see nothing wrong with the fact that my car has something in common with a grand am. I mean, my brother and I look similiar. That doesn't mean we're identical or even mistakeable for each other unless your a complete idiot or blind. Besides, there is PLENTY about my car that isn't similar to a grand am, so I'm more then happy.

Look at the big picure... all the lines. The headlights are identical except for what is inside. the over all shape of the front is identical. the fog lamp posistioning is nearly identical. If you are looking at minor differences of course they are different. If you ask someone like my Mother which one is which from just a front glance she wouldnt be able to tell you. Now if you put our car with a picture of a camry she will. Those are noticable differences. These car look almost exactly alike.

I can nit pick also but by a glance from the front they are hard to dicifer.

I agree that there is a good bit of family resemblance. I find my heart skips a beat when I see an oncoming Grand Prix. I never used to notice them before, and now I think "could it actually be another Goat?"

But many don't know what to think of the new Goat. Last night at the track, the tower, once again, had me listed half the time as a Mustang, the other half simply as "black".

If you are looking at round climate outlets, you have to go to the source of interior styling beauty... too bad the entire cast of Gremlins come to visit right around the 50k miles mark..... hmmm, coincidence??

Sorry Blitzu but the rear of the GTO looks like a Civic if you ask me. If not that, than it is very "tame" looking from the rear, whereas the GTP's rear looks stronger and shows more of a muscle look thanks to the duel exhaust and lower fasia. The GTP's stock spoiler may not be that great but compared to the GTO's its heavenly. I actually got rid of the stock spoiler from my GTP and added on an SLP gen 1 spoiler which in my opinion looks way more muscular.

lol have you seen a GTO from the rear yet (i mean in person)... a civic.... rightttttttttt. I don't think i have heard of anyone seeing the GTO and saying oh thats a civic. Like saying a mustang looks like a integra.

I have to agree it might not look"exciting" from the rear but it doesnt look like a civic or a civic coupe at all from the rear.

Ok maybe not Civic, i was just being sarcastic. But it def resembles something of a small car like the newer Sunfire perhaps. WHATEVER it looks like, it looks wimpy and lame. This being just my opinion.

Yeah, opinions are that worth jack squat unless the opinion is your own. Although my opinion I would compare the back end of the GP's to an old lady's sagging ass, but that's just my opinion. It's sometimes hard to tell if the car is coming or going since that back end sticks out so far and the rearest part of it slants on a downward angle. That was one of my biggest problems with that car was the rear.... it really set's it out as a family car with that.

At least with the Goat if you look at it from the front to the rear there is a consistant angle upward, as well as the rear tires being set further back to actually distingush the front from the rear.

I loved the front of the GP's that is why I fell in love with the GTO right away, but the rear is lightyears better looking. I can deal with true dual exhaust on one side versus fake looking dual tip exhaust.

Well, I love the way the rear looks. I think the spoiler is awesome with its
low build to the trunk. The car looks to me like it is squatted down just waiting to unleash the V8 beast on say a V6 GP. LOLOLOL Oh yes,
opinions are everywhere.

Where's my internet "nanny," now that I need it!

I just love that dead pedal. I presume it's removable so we can grill tofu on the barbie whenever we get the urge.

Hey, DY:

You will remove this after eveyone has had a chance what can happen if we're not vigilant won't ya?

I dont doubt the power of the Goat, in fact i worship its potential. BUT I personally think that the GTP looks better all around. Like you said its my opinion and it means something to me and thats all that matters. Just for shits and giggles, here are a few pics of my car car taken about 2 or 3 weeks ago, enjoy if you will...

Why the hood change?
(see burnout pic)

Supercharged3800

I had the hood on(unpainted) for almost 6 months after trying to save enough $$$ to paint it. It was the SD hood and it was made of fiberglass so very expensive to paint. I was quoted about $800 or more from more than a few people. I was making very little at the time. So i decided to sell it and buy a few engine mods. I will def get that hood again in the near future though, its my favorite hood for the car and now that i have a much better paying job i might be able to afford a good paint job.

I have a '97 GTP with 134,000 miles on it. I'm trying to decide what to do with it? I don't think I'd get anything if I try to sell it but don't want to put much money into it either. Any suggestions?

Gut and part it out on clubgp... you can make a killing on selling all the seperate parts. Ask Ed Morad on there. It is a p.i.t.a. but will get you more money than anyone would ever spend on it now. That's one option.... the other it save it for a winter and rain beater and buy a GTO and drive that when its nice out :D

To me, this generation of Grand Prix always looked like a heavy car. There is a black GTP that parks next to my GTO at work. He has it lowered, which would normally look good on most cars, but it makes his look even heavier. My wife and I drove one a couple of years ago because we were thinking of buying one, but found the car uncomfortable, although the HUD was cool. As far as the GTO looking like a Civic, Sunfire, Cavalier, etc. I don't see this. But I also don't see one car ever looking like another car. I have always been good at identifying cars because I notice the smaller details that make each car unique. Every car has unique styling details and when I look at a car, those are the things that hit me first, then I see the overall car. So for me, its very hard to see a car that looks like another car. If you're talking about general style, then yes there are comparisons to be made, but the comparisons are usually related to shapes, such as wedge shaped, or jelly bean shaped, ovoid shaped, etc. Here you have many cars that fit into those types of categories.

Supercharged3800
07-23-2004, 12:29 PM
My GTP with no weight reduction or any of that crap weighs in at 3,612 pounds exactly with me in it. My car is also lowered and i dont see what you see with the being heavy buisness. The GTO weighs alot more than my GTP coupe. The GTO however looks a bit heavy because it is so low from the factory, I have seen them up close and i dont see how some of them can go any lower than factory. It also looks like he GTO is lower in the rear than the front. Maybe its like that for a reason, I coulnt tell you.

Supercharged3800
07-23-2004, 12:36 PM
Also look at the pics of my car, your telling me that it being lowered dosnt look good!? I lowered it 1.8inches, It might be creeping up on 2 inches ever so slightly as it breaks in. Thatsa enough for me, I hate the way 3 or more inch drops look.

Maybe its the rims on his, I don't know. I like the spoiler you put on yours, that looks really good.

Like I said, I just didn't like this body style ever since it came out, just a personal preference. I liked the previous generation, like the 1995 GTP.

What do you think of the new Grand Prix? I definitely like your body style over the latest one, I really think they missed the ball on that one.

Supercharged3800
07-23-2004, 05:43 PM
The current 04 GTP is a nice car but not as good looking as the 97-03 model. But it can sure look nice as hell once done up ever so slightly. Check out this pic of the GTP of the month on pfyc.com- http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PFYC&Category_Code=04

Or check out the inferno package they offer, DEF HOT!- http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Category_Code=04&Product_Code=GP1907

There are alot of mildly modded (exterior wise) 04s out there and they do look stunning. Slap a pair of rims on it have it lowerd and you got yourself a nice ass car.

But i have to ask you one thing, if you dont like the body style that i have, why would you like the way the GTO looks? seriously, they could almost be sister cars. If you like one then you have to at least like the other just a little.

flyinlow
07-24-2004, 04:22 PM
Other than the nose looking the same, if you line them up nose to tail, the body lines look totally different. Sure, they have the same general dimensions, but as I said in an earlier post, its the subtle details that make the difference for me, not the general look of the car.
