I won't say that the 265 series tire will work. My understanding is that you typically don't want to go wider than a 255 series tire on 8" wide wheels. However, the drag radials tend to be slighty different animals. A 275 series drag radial may require that you roll the fenders so as to prevent rubbing, but I think that a 275 series drag radial may be pushing it in terms of the stock 18" wheels. I think that if it were me, I would play it conservatively and go with the 255's. Obviously you will want to get another opinion, because I am certainly no expert when it comes to tires.

I just put Nitto 555 245/40ZR18 on the stock 18". They bearly fit in the front and fit just fine in the back. I am putting Nitto DR 245/40/17 on the stock 17" rims. The Nitto has plenty of grip.

It seems that you have run into the same issue as me. I am not ready to replace the rear tires, but I have initiated my research. If you find a solution, please let me know, and I will do the same. Thanks.

There have been a few discussions about this topic. I also want to put the 265's on my wheels but most everyone advises against it. Here are my results of a search:

We put the same wheel tire combination on MyGoatBite's car and they don't rub at all. IMHO the 245 is right at the ragged edge. On the other hand, once you suck it up and roll the fender the whole game changes. JMHO

Thanks for the info, wrp. I would love a really wide back tire, but I do not think that I am ready to 1.) change wheels, 2.) roll the fender, or 3.) add drag bags (oops, I've already done the drag bags) or something similar to reduce rear end travel. ;) At this point I only have 3,700 miles on the car. Besides, my wife says that I am out of GTO mod money. I handle all of the bills. How would she know? Perhaps I will change my mind in the future.

You can run the 245/40-18 BFG G-Force Drag radial on it with no rubbing problems. GTO1369 runs them and they hook!!!

A few guys have had issues. But from what I've seen many are using that size up front with no issues.

im running 245 40 18 bfg's (not DR)on an 18x8 Drift-R wheels all around, and no problems. Course i havent really tested the limits, i have been really careful to not make sharp turns or go over gnarly speed bumps.

So 265/40/18s do not work with the stock wheels?

I sure hope someone starts making a drag radial for us 18'' wheel guys.

I was told that 245s are the widest you *should* go on the (stock) 8" wide rim. A 265 will sorta buldge over the rim and threads I've searched some say there may also be rubbing issues.

Really a 265/40/18 should have a min. 8.5" or 9" wide wheel according to tire charts I've downloaded off the tire mfg. websites.
