View Full Version : GROOVY Tire Issue? - Stock 18's POTENZAS

I have an 06 A4, 9,000 miles on it, with stock 18's and the potenza tires that it came with. Sometimes when I drive over a road that has been grooved, my tires seem to catch the groove and pull the car to follow the grooves.

It looks like the tread pattern on the tires would influence this occurance. It hasn't gone to the point where i lose control of the goat, but me and my passengers feel it when it happens.

Has anyone else have this happen? Was there an action taken to correct this, such as change the tire?

Same thing happens here in Vegas (in my GTO and Colorado). I am use to it now though so I haven't done anything to try correct it.

PS: Think our GTO's are bad...my brother's C5 feels even worse!

I am surprised at 9k that you still have the stock bridgestones. I hate them. They grab like you said, the tread rating is only 160 (i think) and my rears only lasted to 6k without burnouts. I had camber issues though. When you get your next set I recomend trying out something else. I prefer the BFG KDW NT.

Actually the tread rating is 140:barf: . I can't wait to get the Pieces of sh!t off and put some Nitto 555 in a 245 size on my car.

Its called Tram-lining. A pretty common problem on all direction tires.

I had it WAY worse with my Yokohama AVS-E100's that had a solid silencer belt directly in the center of the tire. Any rut or groove and I'd be fighting to keep the car straight. My Potenza's are doing great, I haven't had any problems as severe as I had with my Yoko's.

I like the tires haha. But yeah, it'll do that. There is a stretch of road out in Destin that is REALLY bad. It'll drag you all over the road, but its not as bad as in my mom's BMW or my friend's Vette.

I have only had this happen on cars that needed lower control arm bushings. This is the first I have heard about this with tires. I appreciate the info.

Oh yeah, take a look at any direction tire with the center silencer belt. Its a pain in the butt.

My Potenza's did the same thing. Replaced them with Mich. Pilots @ 4500 mi. Problem solved.

Drive an Evo or STI, a groove or crack in the road will yank the steering wheel right out of your hand!

OOoooldskool! i still have those stockers btw. just hit 20k, and looks like I have a bit of life left in them. going over straight grooves at 90mph is the worst!
