One of GTO test vehicles came in today, it was a manual transmission car, and the dyno numbers were:
298.6 RWHP/326.9 RWTQ

I will get the graph posted as soon as I can scan it.

We will be using this car and two others for new product prototyping and development, SO STAY TUNED!

Those look like good numbers right out of the box.

Yeah, not too shabby.

I am very excited about the new products that we will be prototyping to "wake" the GTO up.

Is that Jon's car?

No, it is another customers car. He was kind enough to let us do some testing.

The car is brand new with under 20 miles on it. Once it breaks in, it will make more power.

It becomes obvious on why everyone calls it a torque monster!!

I take it that is sarcasm because Ford engines typically produce so much torque...

While I guess it'd only take one run to redline, isn't that a little hard on a motor with only 20 miles on it? Or just being one run it doesn't matter?

Good hard runs on the dyno are the only proper way to break an engine in, IMO. That is how you get the rings to seat properly. An engine that is babied from day one will always be a slug.

I tend to agree with scott somewhat. The engine needs to be babied in the first 500 or so miles IMHO. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't ever hit redline etc. Now running it to redline on every shift etc, yes thats bad, but a few good runs isn't bad in my opinion as long as you keep it limited to once or twice every couple of miles. Of course thats just my opinion.

It will? Even with my conservative heads and cam setup, I’m still over 400rwhp and the car is an absolute animal and I “babied” it. Sans a burnout here or there of course. :D

Are you talking about the 'balanced and blueprinted LS1' in your sig? Of course it is an animal...400+ rwhp is stout. But, did whoever assembled the engine stick it on the dyno and seat the rings before you babied it in the car? If not, there is some unrealized power lurking in there and you don't even know it.

Whenever I build an engine that matters, like for a race car, I always break it in on the engine dyno. Once it is warmed up, oil changed and a half pull, it gets a full pull all the way up. This is with probably less than 10 minutes of running time, mostly idling. That seats the rings. If it breaks, it was going to break anyway.

Yup. I was there when they did the base pulls on it.

Point I was making is that I babied it originally, then babied it after I did the engine, and it wasn't "weak" at any time.
