VIN Problems

Anyone had problems with the VIN on their GTO? I brought mine into a shop to get a little minor body work done. The estimator look down the VIN, punched it into the handy dandy computer and up popped a G6 4 Door.

Maybe that's a good way to get out of tickets.

"Honest Judge, The officer must have been mistaken. There is no way a G6 could leave that much rubber going through the intersection, it's front wheel drive..."

Seriously, has anyone heard of this?

Having spent many years in the auto claims end of the insurance industry, I'd guess that the problem is with the estimator's computer, not your GTO.

Most insurers/appraisers use ADP, Mitchell, or CCC estimating systems, and none of them are perfect. Far from it, actually.

I just checked my VIN at www.carfax.com and it came up as an '06 GTO. I also checked it on Mitchell's UltraMate Collision Estimating platform - and it decoded it correctly. Must be the other guys (CCC or Audatex) having the problems....they suck. (I work for Mitchell).

Are you sure he didn't fat finger the keyboard when he typed in your vin?

A little OT, but this is the first time I haven't seen people say or type 'VIN number'. Halleluleah! On of my pet peeves. Also 'PIN number'. When ATMs first came out everyone said "don't let others know your PIN". Now they say PIN number, even in some banks' written material.
