Greetings All,

Finally got the Borla Exhaust and SLP Midlength Headers installed, and all I can say is WOOOHOOO. The drivers side headers are a real pain to put in, but the whole install took about 4 hours. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the stock exhaust. Here are some pics. Also the supports for the Cats are in the wrong place... so I need to create some sort of additional support. Dyno run is next weekend!

So that's what those things are...I saw those handle looking things on the SLP website and was thinking to myself, why did they put valves in the middle of the exhaust? :gr_jest:

Have you notified them of that problem yet? I bet you're one of the few that actually has this setup so far.

Mid Length Header Set Up. Called Slp And They Protyped There Header Set- Up Off Of A M6, The A4 Tranny Is Actual Shorter Than The M6, They Said
They Have Eliminated This Mounting Brackets In They Assembles Now.

The sound is incredible... Especially when it hits second gear... this is what a sports car is supposed to sound like. However with the windows up and the radio on... you can tell it's there... but only when you get on it. Let's just hope the wife doesn't notice. I haven't heard any body else's exhaust... so I have nothing to compare it to. I do know that I am very pleased... and I can check the following off the checklist

- Ligenfelter Intake
- SLP Mid Length Headers
- Borla CatBack Exhaust

Still Left (Next Weekend I hope)

- C5 Big Brakes
- HSV Performance Suspension

Looking forward to dyno results... I'd like to see how the midlength headers compare to the same brand long tube headers.

Please post the actual dyno graph (large enough to see), not just the peak numbers. Thanks!

BTW, if you have a baseline dyno, have them graph that vs the headers result so we can see just how much power you've gained.

Did the install myself... took about 2 1/2 hours. That last bolt closest to the firewall on the drivers side took the longest. Borrowed a torque wrench from Autozone... bought some new gaskets... and bingo... done. Had to remove the fire retardant material on the drivers side to get the new headers in on the drivers side, and cut up my hand pretty bad... but it was well worth it. Had a buddy of mine blow by me yesterday... and dare I say it sounds even better from the outside. Do you know a place close to Orlando where I can dyno this weekend. I was thinking about possibly going back to that RevExtreme place... but I'd like something a little closer.

I never did get a dyno before I did all this stuff... but I had a stock A4. I've been dealing with Dana form SLP on the bracket thing... and I'll let all of you know how that goes. You are right there is a differece between the m6 and a4 when it comes to that bracket.

Oh and I got a 89.00 gift certificate from Tbyrne for the order... so needless to say my new wires will be here by Friday... and I got the sparkplugs yesterday. Man I told myself I'd be done now... this car can make you crazy!!!!

What kind of suspension is offered by HSV? Billstiens, Konis, or Monroes?

How close do they come to the steering rack and is the ceramic coating silver? I take it that SLP has fixed the bracket issue for the A4?

I ordered my SLP's today. I was going to go with LT's but I chickened out. There seems to be to may issues with the LT's. I know they don't have the same HP gains. But I don't want to molest the car to much. I want to be able to return the car to stock without a lot of hassel. You know, Calif smog laws :banghead: and there is the warranty thing to deal with to.

1) molest- huh?
2) return to stock w/out hassle- huhx2
3) chicken out - hat trick

well, molest - your replacing manifolds not all that molesting, seriously

Both LT and Mids are bolt ons

Once you replace with mids you still voided your exchaust warrenty, so huh ?

My concern is about the warranty of the car as a whole not just the exhaust. And with LT's there are some install issuses that deal with rack and pinion. I don't like the fact the they are so close to it.(heat) And with the LT's you have to remove the X brace on the LH side and leave it off. And grind the studs off the body. This is from info I've gathered from this form. Just being a little conservative. I guess I've worked at a dealer to long. I know what happens to people that try to warranty a moded car. I'm only speaking about a catastrophic engine failure of course. We had a Zo6 in our shop that had a CAI installed on it. He drove it through a water puddle and sucked up a bunch of water into the engine. :bomb: Guess what, no warranty. $$$ 1 new LS6 please + labor. :barf: If something bad happens to mine I want to be able to return it to complety stock before returning to the dealer with no trace of mods. Yours truly, Mr Paranoid.

Did you try Vinci Hi-Performance? http://www.vincihiperformance.com They worked on my '95 Z/28 and do really good work. They just opened up a new shop in Maitland so I'm not sure if the old shop is still open or not but it was in Orlando near Hwy 50 & John Young Parkway. Might want to give them a call.

right on, you make good points. I am super curious on the slp dyno numbers, you have any, after the jba shorties known flop/disapoint I would not buy unproven products especially from SLP who is NOTORIOUS for JACKING up thier HP gains.

Scott

I think eveyone jacks up HP gain's. It's all about selling parts. I've never really heard anything to bad about SLP products. I have the power-flow cat-back on mine. It's a quality unit and fit great.

Good points, but the SW long tubes are what sit near the boot for the steering rack. The Dynatechs are the ones that require the removal of that brace, or grinding part of it down. The Kooks require neither of these. That's what I went for. The rack clearance is good, and no grinding braces.

And as far as the Z06, I had a friend who did that to his engine with a CAI, and his insurance company covered it, but YMMV.
