Has anybody had this happen?
Today after I started my car and headed down the road, I looked at the gauges and the speedo was around 180 to 200 mph (no, not Km) and the tach was at 5000 to pegged!

I was probably doing about 30-45mph.
It stayed this way for the 15min drive and when I shut the car off, the tach went down to 3500 and the spedo did go to 0.

When I went to start it again, every time I inserted and turned the key, the tach would drop 1000rpm until now they are both working as normal?

Any thoughts?? :banghead:

sounds like the BCM...try starting your engine while holding down the two top buttons on the dash (above the arrow buttons). Keep pushing mode until all your dash lights turn on. While you are cycling through the debug mode, note any trouble codes retuned by the BCM.

Mine has done the same a few times. I just end up turning the car off and it seems to reset itself. If it did it more often I might actually take it in.

Sometimes it seems my car is the test model for every TSB that I have read about. Now my 'low coolant' warning is coming on evertime I drive the car...yah!!! Another trip to the dealer!

I had the instrument cluster replaced after the speedometer decided, while I was driving, to move the zero-point to 60. Drove it straight to the dealership and left the motor running until they looked at it. Power-cycle returned it to normal that time. Then, a month or two later, my tach did exactly what you described, with the step-down at ignition-cycle. Been fine ever since, though. A bunch of us have experienced this sort of stuff. For many, it was a one-time thing...

This has happened to me twice since I bought the car in July; as others have said, if it happened more often, I'd actually take it in.
