I've only rented it...

I'm up to where you are the Covenant Arbiter and I'm sort of annoyed to be quite honest...The Flood were a PITA in the first game and I'm thinking to myself, if this is what they had to do to work them into this game, then they shouldn't have bothered.

I'm taking it back today and not planning on getting it or renting it again.

I played the first one through on Co-op and it was a lot of fun...I couldn't ever see the point in paying for XBox live though, especially when I have a more than capable game playing computer with Internet. I haven't done any online play of anything in a long time though - many many months. Just not into it too much anymore.

My son and I played through the first one together,and had a blast,it only took us a week.And unfortunatly it turned him into a video game junkie,Halo bieng his favorite.We're working on the new one now when I can find time.My son wants me to play it with him every free minute I have, it almost takes the fun out of it.

HL2 will very likely kick Halo 2's ass...but for the most part they appeal to different market segments (console vs. PC). By the time Halo 2 comes out on the PC it (and likely HL2 for that matter as well) will be considered primitive, same as the original Halo was (and what a crappy port that was, let me tell you).

I like 2 Covenant plasma rifles (what the Elites carry) more than two SMGs but that's just me.

The neat thing is the recoil seams like it would a real gun... and i hate how i run out of SMG ammo in the middle of nowhear so im usually using 2 plasma rifles... There are so many new guns its sweet! im fighting the boss covenant dude or whatever in his chair... He is hard to beat with all those other dudes coming after me. I lasted like 10 minutes then one dude came up behind me with that energy sword thing and killed me. Thats also my most favorite weapon aside from SMG's... THat energy sword thing. Very sweet.

Dude, the weapons get better as you go through. You can get that green canon thing the Hunters use, bwahahahha :hail:

I hate that the energy sword runs out of "ammo" so quickly when you do that insta-kill lunge deal. I also think that they should have made the regular swipe attack with it controlled by the trigger and the special on the keypad button, instead of the way it is standard with the special attack on the trigger.

Ok I have to admit I've only played the pc version and the pc version sucked. Plus I never got over the fact that halo was orginally going to be pc only until microsoft bought bungie (which oddly enough used to only make Mac software) and microsoft made them convert the game for the XBox. Personally Ive never liked FPSs on consoles, they just dont have the accurate controls of a mouse/keyboard. But you have to admit that the single player story got really bad. It was almost pretty good but they just kept using the same level peices over and over again so at times you could play for over an hour and still be in the same narrow hallways the entire time.

Finish it!! Not sure how many hours is took but finished the default level yesterday.

I'm dissapointed with the online gaming. It just like all the others, just different guns. My only complaint about the game is some of the level are too dark. I had to drop all the binds in the room to see. At least the flashlight can stay on all the time without running out of battery.

I thought Halo was a good game, but definitely not the gift to mankind that some think it is. Considering the MS buyout and subsequent re-vamp, it turned out very good (although I'm with you on the FPS' on a console issue, a gamepad isn't capable of the same smooth, intuitive feeling that mouselook gives). It definitely improved between the early XBOX playable stuff and the release, that's for sure, but I can only imagine how far ahead of it's time it would have been if it had released on the Mac/PC a year and a half earlier.

I also have to disagree with Half Life 'redefining' the FPS. Several other games had attempted story integration (since we're talking Bungie, take Marathon for example, or System Shock 2), and while HL was a relatively mainstream success, it's not the first of it's kind. Also, even with story integration, it's difficult to use a FPS to tell the same story a RPG or adventure game would (although cross-genre games like Deus Ex can provide exceptions, they're surely not the rule). I'd say that both Half Life and Halo are very significant titles, but more for their ability to break through to more casual gamers.

That being said, all the Source and HL2 demos have made me crap my pants. I'll be in line tomorrow, that's for sure.

Marathon...Boy that was a while back...And of course there was Pathways Into Darkness before that, remember that? What I'd been trying to figure out after beating the first Halo was how Marathon and PiD and Halo all tied together - all that 7 crap and apparently a lot of the mythology and weird stuff that Guilty Spark'd say had parallels in the other games...Check out halo.bungie.org (http://halo.bungie.org) for some interesting reading (there are spoilers but you can turn them off (default is off) using browser cookies).

Boy I'll tell you what though, I do miss the days back when Half Life first came out...I was actually known online for my skills back in those days. I got out of it before Counter Strike even showed up on the scene though. I was actually thinking of reinstalling tonight and fooling around for a while. Have to figure out what my Steam account is from the last time I had it installed like, last year.

On-line play is the best... it was weird how it is setup in the begining but once you get used to it.... additcting...

Halo 2 friggin rocks! The only people that don't like it are the one's who aren't any good at it! :gr_jest: I love the "Uprising" level on Legendary... it's all out combat! Pack a Brute Shot and an Energy Sword and start beating down some Brutes! :thumbs:
