I check the difference between the 2004 brakes and 05/06 brakes and found that the rotor size is the same between the 2 (motor trend brake stats). Apart from the fact that the rear brakes are vented on 05/06, what is the difference in the calipers that make the 05/06 brakes better. I also found an HSV brake kit on eBay with 13 inch front rotors and 12.5 inch back rotors, anyone familiar with this kit. Want to upgrade my 04 brakes, but don’t want to spend 1k (plus) around $600 is what I am looking at. I am not looking for insane brakes (this is not a race) just something to give me a bit more on the street. I am sure everyone is aware the stock 04 brakes are ****.

05/06 brakes are at least an inch larger front rotor and the calipers are a little bit bigger. you've got the rears correct tho. 05/06 are vented while the 04's are not.

For $600 your only choice is the 05 brakes, everything else is a lot more money. Get the 05 with Corvette brake pads and you'll have more than enough stopping power for the street.

yeah, I upgraded my brakes to the 05/06 set up. All you need is some bolt spacers which I found on here and 05/06 front brake lines, and drill the small rotor sheilds off of your spindles for the 1 inch bigger front rotors and calipers.. Then if you find a complete set of brakes with the lines (ebay) you can easily swap them out. I can attest to how much better they are than the 04 brakes I barely have to push on the pedal and the car starts to slow very quickly.

The 05 rotor is an inch wider in diameter and almost twice as thick as the 04 rotor.
I did the 04 to 05 swap the hard way, purchased
(HL) (RH) steering knuckles,
(HL) (RH) calipers,
(LH) (RH) brake lines,
(8) 14mil Caliper bolts,
(2) 05' rotors.
Total around $1500
Worth every penny

I've got a set of '05 calipers and rotors, complete with pads, brake lines and bolt sleeves, all brand new parts. I'm considering selling if anyone is interested. I need more $$$$ to spend with Nitro Dave:drink:

Here is what I did and it worked EXTREMELY well.
StopTech Blank Rotors all around
Axxis Ultimate Pads all around
StopTech SS Braided Lines all around (You could get away without upgrading these)
It will cost more like 800. But it is well worth it!

The front calipers on the 05/06 are at least 30% stiffer than the the 04's - this has a tremendous and positive affect on pedal feel. The larger and thicker 05/06 front rotors give superior fade resistance. Buy quality performance brake pads if you expect to do triple digit haul downs or you will toast the stock pads and start leaving deposits on your rotors. Brake pads have a tremendous impact on stopping performance. I did the total swap to 05 fronts and 05 vented rotors in the rear for under $300 not including pads. I was, however, one of the first to do it and got in before the prices started to rise. Still, you should be able to do this for less than $500 if you watch eBay and carparts.com. You don't need the spindles. Spacers for the 04 bolts to accept the 05 caliper brakets are easy to make. I travel a lot and every time I climb back in my car I marvel at the brake pedal feel (had to bleed 3 times to get all the air out). Happened again to me today when I flew back in from CA.
I was thinking about getting the bear 13 inch kit four my 04 and was wanting to know if people had it, and what the diffrence is, or should I go an other route.
The brake kit is $900

The Baer kit has the previous generation C5 calipers while the 05/06 upgrade would net you C6 calipers.
