Just got my 2005 GTO with about 8,000 miles on it. We had it up on the lift to inspect the underside of the car, and to do a tire rotation. We noticed that both front tires still had a good amount of tread on them, but the wear of the tire seemed very odd. Each tread block on the inner part of the tire seem to alternate in height. I could understand different sections (outside, middle, inside) of the tire being different heights, but not along the same line. Is this an alignement issue? I tried searching and couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

it most likely is. if it's only on the inside set of tread blocks, most likely it's use to excessive toe out and some negative camber. it's called heel toe wear. where the leading edge is lower than the trailing edge of the tread block. if the tires were solid ribbed tires instead of the block design, you wouldn't see this. it would be more solid wear because of the tread design.

yep, your GTO needs a little more positive camber and it's toes straightened...:)

Excellent thanks for the help. I did some more research, and I understand it now.

Now I have to see if I can have this fixed under warranty. Seems a little early to have to do an alignment, but needs to be done.

I hope you checked your struts for tire rub also. You said you had 8K on the oudometer. I believe GM lets you go to 7500 miles under warranty. I'd get it in there quickly before more miles add up and try to explain your situation. You never know. If you got the car from the dealership, they may give you a break and put it on the warranty for you.

I checked for strut rub, and there was no signs of it. However, the passenger side tire was very close to the strut. Not sure if that is normal, or just due to the fact that I need an alignment. I plan on taking it in ASAP, so hopefully they will cover it.
