Took the GTO to the track last night. Weather was perfect(mid 40's), track was pretty good. With very little tirespin, the best I could get was 13.976@100.16mph. This is an A4 car with no mods and 1400 miles. 60 ft/times were not impressive with 2.075 being the best. The mph is good so the power is there, an M6 car could probably nail some 13.60's, maybe even a 13.50 with tires and the right driver.
The track was busy so I was only able to get 4 runs in. I didn't get much chance to try different shift points, just let it shift itself. Experimented foot braking twice but it 60 footed better when flashing the converter. One thing I noticed is that the car shifts too late into third. I think this alone could yield a few hundredths. One thing to play with when LS1 edit becomes available. I think altering a few shift points and deleting torque management could probably get a tenth. The car should also get faster as it gets more miles on it and loosens up.
Anybody else been to the track yet?
PS - going on vacation for a week so don't take lack of response to this post personal ;)

Nice times.
Glad to see a GTO owner taking the car to the track.
I was beginning to wonder when we would see some ET's.

Nice times!
2.075 isn't that bad a 60' time for a stock, skinny-tired car.
Keep practicing & report back how you do.

And I'll tell you, A stock 64/65 GTO was a full second and 10mph off that.

Thats a very good time for an auto weighing 3700lbs. I'm sure the computer is holding the car back, as well as the tires.
I think that is a good start, congrats :)
That's a good benchmark. When I get a few more miles on my M6, I'll take it to the track and report back the results.

Thats really shocking the mph is so low.
BTW your 60 ft was not that bad at all.

Motor needs more break in time. I could barely do 100-101 on my LS1, then I hit about 5k miles and started picking up mph all the way up to 108sh. Now Im at 9.5k and it seems to have leveled off. I would have thought driving would have something to do with that, but I really cant see that Ive done anything different.

Going to do a few mods this week and hopefully go back to the track either Thursday night or Saturday. Mods include:
Vigilante 2600 stall converter
BFG drag radials (275/40R17)
TB bypass
weight reduction (removed 90 lbs.)
As long as everything goes well, I will post results soon!

tterbo,
Where did you find 90 lbs.? Just curious.

Some of the boys down under are getting big (couple of tenths) gains from PCM mods
I remember one "street legal" A4 300 RWHP Monaro -
[ (PCM / CAI / exhaust) mods ] running somewhere around a 13.1 quarter
- Think it had a 3.73 rear with
street tires and NO converter swap

Yeah, I can see where PCM mods will help out. The car doesn't seem as strong on the top end as my WS6 did. As soon as I can disable torque management and play around with the shift points, I'm pretty confident there will be a few tenths worth.

I'd say once the engine breaks in a little more, and when you get used to driving it, you'll have your time down in the 13.6's.....possibly lower. Keep us informed, and get that 60' time down!!

I got a few people near me who can do some custom tuning with this PCM that I plan on starting by removing the Govener, followed by maybe some tweeks to some fuel tables... who knows, Im not the expert with tuning, but hopefully we could sqeeze a few horsey's out of the motor. We also plan on changing the fan settings on when they are activated, and how long they stay on after the car shuts off, to help cool the motor after running it for long periods. Maybe get a fan control knob switch for the track.
Ill keep everyone updated!

So far from what ive seen gto's dyno. They run rich up top,a ported T.B. will cure that problem.

I removed the MAF screen and ordered an MTI ported throttlebody today. Hopefully that will help lean it out a little and bring the mph up some.

Hmmm... I have yet to see one of you guys on the street in Chicago. Maybe cause of the weather, but getting anxious, swear!!!

He learned he couldn't speed shift and couldn't take it over 5K rpm or it wouldn't shift. But he did say his ran better than most of the ones there.

Thats about what my '64 did bone stock. 4bbl and 3.23 gears. Was not quite that mph I think though. Clutch helped fix the same shift problem. (early diaphragm clutches). Later did consistent 14.1's (street tires) and maybe once high 13 with slicks.

Good times
I remember someone saying that the LS1 responds very well to simple boltons. (Can anyone put some light on this)
Goodluck with your car

I recommend ls1tech.com for indepth discussion of anything technical on the engine. It has an amazing amount of information on what does and doesn't work on ls1's.

He did the Royal Pontiac build up and then headed back to the track. Like Capitol, Aquasco couldn't launch. Only went a couple tenths quickers but at 102mph. Went to Budd's Creek and went 13.5@101.58.
I'm hoping when I get mine, it'll be at least that fast to start with. Might take some practice launching a LS1 as I was used to launching an LT1/6spd, but I think it'll get there. Then the mods start :)

that would be either my Monaro or one of my customers cars , you can checkout the early progress on my sitehttp://chipmaster.com.au/Project%20Monaro.htm

Yes- I had done some of the Bobcat stuff too. We stopped by Royal one year when I went out for the EAA fly in when it was in Rockford, Ill. Seems the kit was mostly a thin head gasket, mill the heads for even more compression and maybe some carb mods. Not a lot. Spent time at those tracks too. Maybe saw your dad. Anyway, we have friends in Mt Airy, run the Rock Hill Orchard. Get up that way 2-3 time year for peaches, apples and pumpkins. :D

2.0 '60 is damn good for a car that weighs as much as the A4
you can't really complain..the cars seems to fall on its face a bit top end
a 2.0 should be good for a high 13's. Do you have a aftermarket CAI ?

Just curious, I have recently purchased a Impluse Blue GTO M6.
I thought the qtr mile times would be better than I am seeing here.
My '99 GrandPrix GTX is modified a little bit with a PCM,CAM, Headers, 3.0 supercharger pulley and it runs high 12.9's Low 13.0's on street tires.
http://www.migpc.com/The_1_4_Mile/the_1_4_mile.htm l
The cars weigh about the same amount. The GTX puts down about 290hp to the wheels on the dyno, and I figured the GTO would do around 300 bone stock.
So, with the same weight, HP, and rear wheel drive shouldn't the GTO be running low 13s ?
Seat of the pants feels like the GTO pulls stronger out of the hole than the SC V6, ...

I pulled a 13.3@104 in my 6 speed GTO. So yes it's possible and yes it can pull low 13's.

Cool, I will not be at the track until Late April with our GrandPrix club. Dyno next week though. Still learning how to drive this beast, the GP is just point it straight and nail it.
