View Full Version : 19" axis mod maxis wheels are on

Got the deep lips (maxis) on the back and the normal lips in the front. All I can say is WOW, they were worth the wait. I can't believe how a deep dish 19 inch wheel changes the whole look of the car. This car was made for 19's, they just make it POP. They also make the car look stockier, less elongated.

The ride is incredible too, w/ the micheline ps2 sports, the car claws like a cat on a tree. (my roads are not bad here so pavement cracks and potholes aren't much of an issue)

It's too dark today to get good pic's, I'll post them this weekend. Phobos, I think you are going to love them.

No doubt. I was really looking forward to seeing these. :)

The more I see 19" rims on the GTO, the more I like 'em. But I think I'll probably be content with 18" rims.

Personally not feeling the chrome, but they still look sweet! The dish on the rear looks real nice!

Watch out for the fence posts and barbed wire. Unless you like that sort of thing... =)

I didnt want to post the camera phone pics because they brighten the wheels up way too much. Keep in mind the sun was shining in from the bay door side and shining into the camera lens. They do look good in normal lighting and match the tail pipe nicely. I'll get higher quality pics and you can make a better judgement - I know some won't of you won't like them, thats cool. My reactions from friends that have seen them really positive and I am a very proud owner.

Thanks ~Joe

Yeah... I'm definitely sticking to 18" rims now. ;) No offense - yours look great.

I'm not much for the bling.

You can tell there is a bunch of old farts on this forum that own gtos. I think they look sweet. 19s are a must have on this car otherwise the car looks out of proportion. I also own a corvette with 19/20 combo and it get so many people looking at it compared to stock. I own a torrid red gto and I getting a set of 19s for it. As far as performance goes who cares you cant go that fast on the street anyways.

Then I am happy living in the worst part of town driving my ghetto Pontiac =)

Those are chrome and in different lighting and vs's mine photo'd on a super compact camera phone. FYI... It's the exact same wheel ;)

It's cool you don't care for the wheel, what's not cool is disrespecting me and calling my hard earned assets, ghetto. Very rude.

dude you are insane those are axis mods not a true 3 piece axis seven wheel as seen on that ferrari....stop pretending they are because if they were you would have spent well over 5k rims alone

josephra

Thanks for the indignant rhetoric. They aren't 5 grand for rims alone, but they are a solid cast aluminum wheel (and each rim has 3 pieces :) ) I do prefer the more affordable version of the 3 piece, and solid wheels are just fine in my book.

But thanks for your negative opinion and offensive style; you help add a great deal of class to our forums. I'm sure you’re opinions are greatly appreciated by everyone here.

Look good to me. Though I'm more of a 5 spoke kinda guy. I do like the 19" size.

Wow man, that was rude...

But seriously, the wheels look good on the GTO, just not really as good as they would if they were painted or even a machined finish. They look way better on the Ferrari for good reason. :p

19's dont look bad on the GTO but i'd like to see more people do 18" fronts and 19" rears like BMR. (Mostly so I can decide if I want to do that or not myself.)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

19" rims on the front look out of place, IMO, and I prefer the painted look over chrome.

It's not necessary to personally attack someone when expressing your opinion.

joseph - that looks pretty slick. I'd have posted sooner but I was in Vegas for a class this week (got to check out Sam 04 GTO's car yesterday and DAMN that thing is awesome).

How is/was the rubbing? Have to do anything extreme to get rid of it? Also, are they 245/35-19 and 275/30-19?

Hmm,

I don't think I care for them, mainly because of the way they bulge out in the center of the rim...

Then again I'm a 5 spoke person at heart anyway.....

Christ here we go again with the old vs. the young. The old forget that we neva had a muscle car when we were young we didnt grow up around chevelles and other rwd cars and the young forget that they have the expirence of those cars. As far as the wheels go i like the 19's. hows it ride and handle?? As for the rim style its to much chrome for me if they were gun metal id be all over them

I'm going with 18's.

19's look odd to me on the GTO. Then again, they look odd on a lot of cars.

Those wouldn't look good in an 18 either though.

11-20-2004, 08:28 PM
If they had the same finish as on the Ferrari, i'd run them with 18's up front and 19's in the rear. It would look pretty slick like that I bet. Plus you would still have a little piece of mind over rough roads. Only Bond likes his shaken, not stirred.

Ferarri??? RICE?!?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?! :drink: RICE is an 88 Civic with a fart can, primer body kit, erector set wing and LED windshield squirters.

If a Ferarri is rice, then I'll happily buy stock in Soy sauce...

If anything, it's Tortellini. :gr_jest:

Putting stickers on the side of your 360 is a far worse offense than putting them on your Civic. I'd hold a Ferrari owner to a much, much higher standard, but apparently money doesn't buy taste.

But you're right, it's not a rice rocket, it's a pasta rocket.

I'm younger than you and also have a GTO, but share the opinion of most of these "old farts". Could it be that some people have different tastes, or maybe were raised around a different subculture of the hobby that doesn't prefer large multi-piece chrome wheels on their cars?

So next time look out, because in this case, you're the old man.

Also, note that none of my posts have said anything bad about Josephra's car. I think he's correct about a better camera showing the true look of the wheels, and feel that they'll probably look awesome.

Didn't realize wheels could cause so much hate and dissention... very unfortunate.

Phobos, no rubbing at all (245's all around, no 275's - they jus look wider) We did have to do 2 things to get them on, Axis sent them with the proper bore width, but the depth was 1/8 inch too shy on all 4 wheels. So we had to drill it out deeper, the shop that did the work did a great job and you can't tell the difference. On the rear wheels, the nuts had to be grinded down a tad to get the covers on. Nothing that would comprimise the integrity of the bolt/nut seat, just allowed a little of room to get a tight fit.

I missed getting better pic's this weekend - had a frined from out of town in and we had a busy schedule. I've had the car around quite a bit now and the feedback on the wheels is definately positive. The tires are amazing too, got some harder driving in on Saturday and wow. If you want a nice wet dry tire - check out the PS2's and see if they fit you're needs.

The only person that did not like my wheels is a young kid at work. He didn't care for the chrome. He also drives a late model eclipse, has a carbon fiber hood and is what most of you would call a "ricer"; he road races and won't give me a straight answer about his mods. Funny, people and their opinions :)

They have a satin finish, and can do black too. I was on the fence for a long time between the satin vs chrome decision. My eyes drew to 2 things on the car. All of the badging was done in the satin finish and would have accented the wheels. And then there were the chrome tail pipes which looked great against the black car. My amps are chromed, but the GTO badging on them is satin. Yes, I said amps and I consider that important as in keeping with the theme.

I also thought about the eventual supercharger, I would want chrome for that. So, I thought going w/ chrome wheels would be better for keeping w/ the overall theme of the car. I was really worried they would look too bling-bling in person and a bit stressed over the decision (this wasn't a cheap wheel change for me). When I saw them mounted and stepped away from the car - I knew I made the right call.

If you do want to consider this wheel, or similar model - you might want to consider the satin finish; it looks great too.

I also thought I'd mention my 18 up front, 19 in the rear decision. I wouldn't do it unless the tire size was proportionately smaller on the 18's. I didn't like the idea of having the rubber compensate the size difference to keep traction control and antilock brake functionality working correctly. I really wanted to do bigger wheels in the back, but that alone pushed me to 19's in the front. I kow it's an opinion preference thing, but I don't think they look bad or odd at all in person. Remember, photographs rarely reflect how the cars look in person. IMHO.

good luck choosing your wheels.

Not my taste in wheel...but I like the fit. WTGGTO just posted his picks and they look good also. His almost looks like a BMW...with balls. Good lauck and thanks for posting the pics. It at least allows all of us more visual options when the time comes to customize our rides.
