So, who's seen the picnic table and tree?
Anybody here driven 2 hours nonstop yet and seen the picnic table and eucalyptus tree reminding you to take a rest? I was like, "What the heck is that all about?" until I dug into the owner's manual and read about it. That's some weird Australian stuff man. :p

Yeah its an australian thing, its a reminder to stop in long trips- prevents microsleep.
|
I've seen it three times now. When I take my daughter to college. Now they are waiting to "See the tree".
|
Not yet. I hope to take a longer trip next month. Should see it then.

Saw it several times on my way home from Detroit. Haven't seen it since.

I turned it off and heard it but Ive never seen it. Someone take a pic of it for us.
|
I saw it the first day I got it when I took it on a trip to Orlando. I think its a pretty thoughtful quirk!

People here in Australia tend to fall asleep while driving... I'm not sure why it doesnt happen in the USA, maybe our speed limits are too low and boring.
There was a story not long ago of a 9 year old boy whos whole family died because the other cars driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove across to the other side of the road. There are usually flashing signs on the freeways to take a break and also every so often theres a "driver reviver" where they give free coffee and whatever else... Adam |

Studies indicate that drivers falling asleep at the wheel is one of the biggest causes of accidents here in the U.S., too. I came close to falling asleep at the wheel ONCE, on a road trip to Richmond, VA. I woke up just as the car was veering off the right side of the Interstate. I snapped it back on the road and, believe me, I was WIDE AWAKE after that.
I'm sure most of you have experienced the following phenomenon: Long drive, familiar road, your mind is drifting, and suddenly you realize you don't remember driving the last 15 or 20 miles. One moment you're at point A, the next at point B, and you don't really recall everything in between. Scary stuff, but it happens when drivers get "complacent", just a little TOO comfortable. |
Well at least the GTO looks out for you...

And here I thought it was a suggestion to have a cookout and throw a shrimp on the Barbie... :D

It could also be telling you that the GTO misses the simplicities of home... it needs some familiar surroundings.
