what cam sounds right

ok my goals are to be at 400 to 425 hp and around the same TQ area and be a DD i dont want to have to change the heads. i plan on doing kooks LTs,spintech catback, aem or better intake, underdrive, and change the springs and retainers .will that be enuf or am i going to have to change my heads also i have a great tuner so i dont have to worry about that. i dont want the cam to be to crazy i would want more of my power to be in the mid rpm range

the tq. curve will be raised... it just how much you can live and before the car slows down from not having tq. in the correct place..

TR cams 224/224 .563/.563 would put you at 400 with a ls2 i would think and be close to stock tq. curve

We have the TR 224 .563 114 lsa in our '05 M6. With Shorties, catted mid pipes, magnaflow catback, K&N intake & Jeff Creech tune = Hp 393 Tq 389. This is commuted daily 58 miles in Charlotte NC no problem. Mixed city/hwy mileage 22.5mpg. Car puts a smile on your face everytime you drive it. I would think with LTs it would top the 400 mark easily.

yea the stock manifolds seem to max out around 400 or close to it, so with some lt's 400+ shouldnt be a problem...the LS2 already has the 243 heads off of the old Z06, so a smaller cam like a 224/228 would work perfectly and you'd still hear the cam without being too crazy

what is a good cam for the LS2 that will achieve these previously mentioned goals, still get decent gas mileage, and have a nice nasty cam lope? I mean a pretty noticeable lope!

Food for thought, we don't log on much, we don't post much, so take our opinion at face value. Our car will break the tires loose from a 15MPH roll in 2nd gear, pull to 6400, spin 3rd & chirp 4th, and still get decent MPG. All we are saying is don't get hung up on dyno #'s. We don't race, but our neighbors can't tell if we're driveing the '05 or the '67 sometimes whenwe back out..
BTW, my wife can as good as I can. But she graduated HS in 1967 so she know about HP, hence the '67 inour garage. BTW Jeff Creech = FTW!

Ed - that looks like a good cam for LS1 guys with stock LS2 heads. Do you recommend 10.9:1 CR for this cam, pending PTV clearance?

IMO....With the LS2, you goal of 400-425 rwhp is easily attainable with a variety of cams. Ive heard a lot say "I can do this or my car does that" with cam X or cam y. 230 durations and .600 lifts. Mine will do all that with a mere .540 lift and I only need 918 springs. The money I saved by not buying dual springs bought an underdrive pulley and drag bags.. Again, this is only 1 persons opinion. For what you want, save the money on an intake (stock is plenty) and retainers . LT's, hardened pushrods, good springs, underdrive and a tune will easily net 400+hp. A TR224 is a good choice. You can go bigger...but beware, there are trade offs in drivabilty, no matter what others say. You can never go wrong with Comp or Crane. Ed knows his stuff and wont steer you wrong either. Just do your homework and dont let us buffoons talk you into something you dont want or may regret.

Sounds like the Cam I have!

I put down 421 to the wheels with a nice bump in the TQ curve too with the cam in my sig. Good daily driver too. Just cam, shorties, cat-back, air intake and a tune.

you are a funny guy Alex "Little cam" lol thats def a mid size cam just about your size cam!

And yes that does seem like an awesome cam almost the same as mine as well!

And I love mine!!! If you are doing a cam I would do this one or something similar around this size!! If the tune is right driveability will be close to stock as in my car and for all the time and money you will get your moneys worth in this range.

StreetSweeper-HT. I get comments on it all the time...it has a "pretty noticable" lope, and I could easily get 22-23 with it. Properly tuned, it was as easy to drive in traffic as it was stock.

Dyno sheet and vid in my sig.
