GTO at Pinks All Out(La) blew the manifold off(Pics)
Was that anyone on here. He was at Pinks All Out this weekend at NPR and was testing Friday and blew the manifold off. Heard he had a dry shot behind the MAF and left the bottle on. When he started it....BOOM! Man this sucks!

I doubt this as nitrous is not combustible. Usually the manifold will pop when excess fuel pools in the manifold with a wet shot, and with use of a window switch and making sure your solenoids are in working order, chances of that happening are slim to none.

I am interested to hear the real story here.
Using Nitrous results in a more powerful combustion(How do you think it works....its basicly a tiny explosion......it just doesnt have a flash point. The gas itself is not flammable, but it delivers more oxygen than atmospheric air by breaking down at elevated temperatures. What this guy had was detonation. Got too much nitrous and not enough fuel apon startup.....causing it to go boom!

He was pitted over by me, but, I did not get the chance to talk to him before or after. You could hear and feel the "boom" anywhere in the facility.
I was told that it blew the stock steel hood 80 feet in the air, blew the radio out of the dash into his leg, etc. One heck of an explosion. The car was hauled away before I could get to see it up close.

No that was the only pics he had. Just those 2. Im sure some may come up again this week. If so ill post them up.
RUQWIKR i saw you come in and out a couple times. Were you one of the 3 that were supposed to run? There were no GTOs running(Newer ones that is) at the event. We had all of our parked in the spectator spots.

It is an oxidizer that allows more fuel to be burned on the combustion stroke.
Too much nitrous and not enough fuel would result in a very lean condition that could cause other damage but would not pop the hood 80 feet in the air.

It was caused in one way or another from the NITROUS
the valley pan is gone also,so the expolsion may have actualy been in the crank case.
running rich may have washed the rings with fuel
a lot of fuel in the crankcase=boom
