SPEEDTV New Prius road test??

Seriously?

Just saw a preview for it on speed. They were talking about how fast it is

Found this about it on the prius boards
http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-...est-drive.html
Everyone is soooo excited that I think every post has at least 5 smileys in it.

The real question is why were you on a Prius board in the first place? It also begs the question; what is the cut-off for car entusiast forums? I didn't think Prius would have a board of thier own. Are there Kia and Hyndai* boards?

Don't laugh, but I'll be test driving one soon. Wife will need a new high mpg car (her present ride is '03 modded Jetta TDI wagon with a 5sp manual) as our older daughter will get her old one.
I have a feeling that we'll get a new VW TDI sportwagon with every option but auto, as I think that is what my wife wants.Still, I am curious to drive the hybrid.

nothing wrong with that. long as you don't go around smelling your own farts because you own a prius. Or talk about it's "performance" Oh and +1 for the VW diesel.

Dude, the Prius beats the GTO in 0-6 MPH acceleration.

I f-cking hate Prius owners. They sit there and try to make them out to be more than what they are by emphasizing dull shit.
Oh, let's have a race and see who consumes the least amount of gas.
My Prius goes slower than yours.
It is so quiet.
It saves the environment.

They should just all say, "I love my Prius because it keeps me caught up in my bullshit and totally puts emphasis on my dull existence with its lifeless features. I love it because I'm the poster child of smug assholes, and the Prius is the poster child of econo-shit-boxes. It gives me satisfaction by allowing me to put those big, rumbly V8 owners on a guilt trip when i talk about gas mileage. I just don't understand why they have to spin their tires and create all that smoke after I do that. Don't they realize how much gas they are burning?! It is a limited resource, people! Did I mention I love shoving cacti up my own ass?"

My wife has really transformed into an oil head. WHen I told her that we were going to sell her CRV and replace it with a diesel, she thought me nutz. I added large injectors, got a pcm reprogram and put a VR6 clutch in it and it hauls butt. She has told me that if I get her another tdi, it must have the 6 sp manual as she likes the better mpg it gives and she loves to row through the gears. I do think that she won't like how quiet the new one is- she likes the clatter clatter of her '03 on cold mornings. One thing that VW has that Toyota doesn't is incredible paint quality. It is thick and durable, something that any GTO owner can appreciate. Jap paint is designed to cover bare metal, no more.

ummm... no. There's a 10 yr. old Lexus in my garage. It has better paint on it than any new GTO (or any GM product for that matter) ever had. I'll also wager it has fewer stone chips/nicks than any GTO on the road. Just a damn shame it's so quiet.

I see more hate for the Prius on this board than I see similar disgust for muscle cars on the Prius boards. I passed a Mustang GT last week going up fancy Gap just inside Virgina at 74mph and the guy just had this stupid look on his face as I went around him. Obviously, he could have gone faster but it was his look of astonishment that I can't get out of my mind. BTW, one tank of gas and 530 miles at an average of 70 mph for the trip. Fuel economy is why most people buy these cars.

Prius' are the faggiest cars ever made. And before you ask, yes, a car can be gay, and the Prius is.

I just downshifted to third on the highway next to one today, wasting all the fuel he just saved on his whole trip in one, glorious four second WOT rush. Every time I see one I laugh.

Don't get me wrong, I think cars getting better gas mileage and hybrid systems are a good thing. But for a car to be more expensive to be a hybrid kind of defeats the purpose. Also, and the Fusion Hybrid has finally changed this, hybrids look like rolling ball sacs. Why does a car that gets good mpg have to look so retarded? If they just made it look like a normal car but kept everything else the same, I'd be ok with them.

But the fact that they made them slow, ugly, and cheap as shit but simultaneously cost too much, means that mostly the people that buy them are people that want to project the image of an earth-friendly, I care about the planet because it's cool smug bullshit attitude, while also being completely boring and sheep like.

smurf your prius.

As with all vehicles including a hybrid, going faster reduces gas mileage which is the point. This confuses me as I cruise around at the speed limit in my Tacoma and watch Prius drivers "punch it" (haha, fun to watch) and go zipping by all the time. I'm thinking, 'if all you Prius drivers are always in such a hurry, maybe get a faster car?' And Beach Goat hit the nail on the head, just because it has a different engine does not mean car designers should get free reign to release their inner retard and make them look like that. The new Fusion did it right, regular car with a gas engine, or a hybrid. Cheaper to develop as the design work is already done! Also hybrid racing just sounds stupid to me, electric racing could be cool as there are some really fast one's out or coming soon.

I know fuel economy is why most people by the car, but when they try to make the car out to be more than the ugly econo-shit-box it is, I have a problem with it. Every single time someone says, "I drive a Prius," they feel a need to follow that statement up with anything and everything to try and justify their purchase to me. They talk about its surprinsing performance, and always feel a need to put down what I drive.

"What do you drive?"
"A GTO."
"Oh, what does that have in it?"
"V8."
"Oh my God! How can you not possibly care about gas mileage and drive a V8 around?"
"The same way you don't care about driving an ugly piece of shit around."
"Yes, but I get 50 MPG compared to the 8 that you get."
"I get 25 on the highway, asshole."
"See, I get double what you get. Isn't that great?"
"Not really."
"What?! How can you say that?"
"Because I enjoy driving my car. I'd want to cut my throat if I saw that abortion sitting in my driveway."
"Well, I happen to like how it looks. It is very unique."
"Yeah, and Forrest Gump was unique. Doesn't make him any less retarded."
"I can beat you in the 0-6 MPH acceleration test."
"Really? Now you're making up bullshit race scenarios to try and put your econo-shit-box in a higher performance category than my car? You're a sheepish fool."
"Let's race right now. The one who gets furthest on a single tank of gas wins."
"That's not a race. A race involves speed."
"It, too, is a race! When the oil wells dry up, you'll wish you'd have bought one of these!"
"That car won't work then, either, dipshit."
"I'm saving the earth!"
"K. Don't forget to buy some Duracells so you can make it home, you smug retard."

Yep, that's about how it goes.

That show already lost it's credibility with me when they said the Challenger had excellent handling. My only question is how are they going to do powerslides in a Prius? That's the only reason to watch the show.

Speed has gone pregressively further down hill over the last few years.

I have some experience with a Gaybr--err--Hybrid. My parents leased a Hybrid Camry 3 years ago, thinking it was a good idea to save gas when my step dad would drive up to connecticut from our house in north jersey to see my step-sister. Because when I think highway efficiency, I think Hybrid

Three years later and the car has been sitting for months now waiting for the lease to be up. They went way over the mileage on it and have grown weary of it's nonsense. It average about 32mpg or so. I told them to get the 4cyl model if they were concerned about mileage on the highway, and it was faster. I have never driven such a gutless pile of crap in my life, it was astonishing.

Long story short, since I bought the goat my STS had been somewhat put to pasture. Well, it was brought out of retirement a few months ago when they parked the Camry. My mother's been driving it and loves it. It's leaks oil, is LOUD (it's got Corsa) and gets 12mpg due to several failing injectors, and over-heats. Pretty much the complete opposite of the Camry yet, the preffered vehicle of choice even by someone who owns a hybrid.

Well, that's my little story about why I hate toyota and they craptacular synergy drive bs nonsense.

Don't forget all the polution caused by nickel production for the batteries. I've stopped them dead in there tracks with that one before.

i dont mind the concept behind hybrid vehicles; most of here enjoy a car with several technological advances over cars even 20 years ago, 6 disc changer, fuel injection, ecm etc. What always got me is the marketing of making a hybrid look like a hybrid. I'd drive a hybrid car as a commuter no problem as long as it still looked cool. But I've browsed a few of these forums and they will get upset about cars like the Fusion Hybrid, not over its mpg or because its a ford. No no, because it doesnt "look like a hybrid."

What should be honestly a vigilant cause, to be more responsible, for some of the owners its nothing more than a dog in a purse, a fashion statement on wheels. smurf that.

But I've browsed a few of these forums and they will get upset about cars like the Fusion Hybrid, not over its mpg or because its a ford. No no, because it doesnt "look like a hybrid."

What should be honestly a vigilant cause, to be more responsible, for some of the owners its nothing more than a dog in a purse, a fashion statement on wheels. smurf that.

It's not even that. People make fun of their cars by saying it looks like shit, and they say that a hybrid has to look like that, because it's aerodynamic. But then people bring up the ford fusion, and they have nothing to say. They don't being proven wrong is all. Would you be happy if one of your biggest arguments was completely trumped? lol
